While I usually agree with Brent, I think in this case, we should check the track records of the local non-profits.

No independent audits of the books, and they were told many times to do this.

What did it take them to listen? A police raid? Yes, there were no charges. I'm sure Harold didn't want this type of excitment before his retirement.

But go talk to the Marion police Department. Ask them if you can see the evidence. Wow.

Ask Chief Daughtery. Actually, ask the Linn County Prosecutor's Office. They have an interesting way of finding evidence. Sometimes they think they got away with one. Maybe it''s even a couple of year's old. And then? Surprise Chief Daughtery. Nice front page newspaper story. Coming soon, to all statewide publications.

"Just don't be stupid and you'll be fine. "

What he said.

The ban on smoking a cigar outdoors is going too far, but they have never enforced this on me, so I think JCSD does show some discretion.

"but sheer bowl-game experience, ambience, etc. It's a special deal."

You're right I'm sure. I didn't get fanatic about Iowa football until 1999. I've been to THE Rose Bowl, but not A Rose Bowl. UCLA -v- Oregon. It is beautiful, but seems odd to park on a fairway.

I do think, as much as Iowa wants to go, the insiders understand that Big 10 -v- Pac 10 doesn't have a huge national TV draw.

College football, from a business perspective, has done a great job, but they now risk oversaturation with bowl games. It was obvious with empty seats at the Orange Bowl. They had the TV thing nailed down, and the tradeoff is playing the game on a day that most were at work, so empty seats at the actual game.

Harsh facts, but the Gazette reported that an Iowa home football game is worth $14.2M per weekend. I wish it was different, but it isn't, and it's not going to go back to the way it was.

The Orange Bowl has a bigger east coast TV audience, and is better for Iowa recruiting.

Whatever happens, I do agree we need to keep the Rose Bowl tradition alive, even if that is eventually in a playoff format. It's a great game, but let's agree on one point at least, we first need to aspire the the National Championship game, and if that's the Rose Bowl, than everyone wins.

Mike we just disagree about this. The Rose Bowl is the best bowl game event, but it's not the only bowl game. The only bowl game that truly matters in this day and age is the BCS Championship. Now, it is true that once every four years, the BCS Championship is at the Rose Bowl, but given the choice between Iowa in a rose Bowl, or a BCS Championship, there is no comparison. ____This (BCS Championship) is becoming more possible for Iowa now with the NCAA investigating about 80% of the traditional college football powerhouses.____The sportwriters drive this TCU, Boise State, Cincinnatti stuff. I like it also, but let's be honest, does Boise State go undefeated in the Big 10 or SEC?____There's room for these teams, especially Boise who has built a great program, but eventually they need to go to the Pac 10. Look at their schedule this year. Two good games. Iowa plays 4 Top 25 teams. ____And Iowa State right now, not two years from now when the penalty money that Texas is collecting runs dry, needs to get proactive, and start looking for a new conference also.

"Don't tell them anything. They're all idiots"

"Fire them all"

"Casino?"

Now, there is a timeline that would explain these quotes, but for now, this will remain cryptic, and only the illumniti will truly understand.

While this is true, I would maintain that iowa has 12 obstacles.

My solution. One warning. Not find someone and arrest them for a minor infraction. Minor infractions get one warning. Obviously if you are throwing up this is a more complex problem. How about an option for those that run that particular tailgate? If they are cooperative, let him sleep it off in your backseat or he goes to jail. Uncooperative, go to jail.

Some other things to consider. Your liability if you are serving someone intoxicated.

OK, here goes for better or worse. I have traveled extensively to Iowa away games; also Missouri, Kansas, UCLA and Oregon. Iowa's atmosphere is one of the greatest. Having said that, there are fans out of control. Way out of control.

Last year I went to Ohio State, and I saw nothing like the falling down, throwing up I see in Iowa City. Also, no name calling from the OSU fans. I was impressed. We were treated very respectfully, we were told to drive safely, and our team was held in high regard. It was a class act. And yes, there was drinking and cigar smoking.

Somewhere in this mess, there needs to be a happy medium. Seriously, for what we pay to be season ticket holders, and park in the stadium, are you telling me I can't serve a guest a bloody mary? Techincally I can't. No hard liquor, it's been that way for years.

My biggest gripe is that I need to hide my cigar. Outside, not inside. In the great outdoors on a fall afternoon or morning.
