VERN YIP- please consider the effect on your career of your actions as a judge on Design Star! If you are honest with yourself, you must see that your behavior in eliminating Tashica was unkind. On your show, Deserving Design, you represent yourself as a caring, sensitive man. Your treatment of Tashica was anything but caring and sensitive. I will not argue the wisdom of the decision, just the manner in which it was enacted. Everyone deserves a modicum of dignity in their treatment. Please apologize on television to Tashica, and to your viewing public, for your lapse of judgement.
It seems to me that on just about every "design " show on HGTV, the designers are responsible for designing. They have crew and cast who offer carpentry, painting, sewing, and other technical services. I think it is important for a designer to be well-rounded, but it is unrealistic for them to be a one-person show. If we are searching for the best carpenter, the show should be called "Carpentry Star". If we are looking for the handiest person, then we should call the show, "The search for America's Top Handyman". But, no. This is called , "Design Star". The focus should be on design ideas. The contestants should be given enough assistance to carry out their plans. As things currently stand, there is an implied superiority of contestants with carpentry skills.
I do not like Genevieve, so far. She is quite unpleasant. Candice is wonderful. I can handle Vern. What qualifies Genevieve to be a judge? What are her previous jobs before her current show? I saw her on the last go round of the "showdown" shows. She was hateful to her fellow professionals on that show, too.
Does anyone else percieve attitude from Genevieve?
I agree with you. I don't think Genevieve is an especially good designer. I find her to be both abrasive and obnoxious.
