These are lab confirmed cases of salmonella. Nobody is exaggerating anything. It's the job of local health officials to investigate potential food-borne illness, and that's what was done in this case. Kudos to the Linn and Johnson County departments for appearing to work together for the good of all customers involved.

Ok, I was going to let this go when I didn't see it in your Top 10, Marc. But I am pretty surprised that the Orange Bowl victory didn't even make your cutting room floor. Can you tell us why a BCS victory, in presumably the biggest bowl stage Ferentz has won, doesn't even warrant a look?

Great stories, all of these games. I think when I e-mailed you my list, I even said something along the lines of how lucky Hawkeye fans are to be have to choose from so many great stories, and great games to build a Top 10.

Thanks for putting this together; it was a blast reading through the old stories.

That's exactly what happened. The profits that would have normally gone back into the property were sent elsewhere, so maintenance and upkeep weren't kept on the schedule that they should have been.

Actually, for several years in the late 90's and early 2000's, the hotel itself was profitable. The problem was with the then management company's other hotels. Lodgian took the operating profit from this hotel and had to spread it out to other hotels in their portfolio. It made it seem as if this hotel didn't turn a profit, but in actuality it was one of Lodgian's most profitable hotels.
