I seem to remember from last season a sort of trailing-effect on the depth charts for injured players. In other words, if a player didn't play the previous Saturday because of injury (or was simply held out as a precaution) then they often didn't appear on the top-line of the depth chart the following week. More often than not, this had no affect on what actually occurred the following Saturday. I guess this a long-winded way of saying that I won't believe Prater and Tarp aren't starting until they don't actually do so.
Any word on why Tarp didn't play? Pretty sure I didn't see him out there and Bruce Davis in his stead. I am assuming/hoping it was just precautionary with a lesser opponent, no need to aggravate the hand.
And he'll just piss off a LB from EIU who will go on to be a young head coach who's mission in life is to beat Iowa (and will do so with depressing regularity).
Any sense of how serious Gettis' ankle injury is? That is, will this be something that nags at him for a while or is this more a precautionary thing for Saturday?
Great article Marc, love these profiles. Was wondering if you ever had the thought/opportunity to do on on Jeremiah Hunter. Hunter is probably the most forgotten/overlooked member of the defense which is unusual for a three-year starter, would be nice to see him get some much deserved press.
Any info on Tarp's long-term status, timeline on the recovery? Or is this something that he'll have to deal with all season?
Your "I like it!" just reminded me of that, admittedly obscure, Simpsons bit where Moe is changing the bar and Homer tosses out name ideas, to each of which Barney exclaims, "I like it!" no matter how ridiculous.
General Moe's Flaming Wok?
What effect, if any, do these departures have on this year's recruiting? Kind of weird that Gray would go through all of camp only to leave at the end. But I guess that's life. Best of luck to both of them in their future endeavors.
The problem is, 7-9 of those D-1 kids are in basketball.
