Hi Emebu, another reason no-follow links are important is they can still help drive traffic if the content around the link, such as a great blog comment, was compelling enough. Over time, as traffic builds from that method, so does your search ranking. I believe traffic itself is a factor in determining rank and position for most search engines. The more popular you get, the more important Google feels you are, and they send more traffic because of it. It's a beautiful thing. ;)

BTW, Anyone looking for a no-follow highlighter should be able to find a plugin or extension for most browsers.A simple search within the browser's directory will bring up several free tools. Just pay attention to the permissions and access they require.

Hi Laurie, I share on StumbleUpon and I do receive a little traffic from it but I really don't use it as much as I once did. Out of 270 followers and almost as many I'm following, exactly two of them seem active. I've been meaning to clean-up my StumbleUpon network but it's pretty low on my priority list.

Personally, I think using StumbleUpon as a source of content to consume is about as outdated as going to the library and looking at old newspapers. Seriously, I just tried it a few minutes ago just in case they've improved and almost everything I was served was outdated posts and pages; one from 2008! It's hard to believe they haven't incorporated freshness as part of their algorithm by now. It's difficult to think of it as a discovery engine unless you're looking for irrelevant and outdated content.

StumbleDNA is a fantastic concept but only if they can bring fresh content to the top. I really thought StumbleUpon was going to become a big player again when the founders bought it back from eBay several years ago but they still have a long way to go and competition is building by the day. Just my two cents. ;)

Over the years we've seen many contradicting stories when it comes to social media and consumer behavior. There've been several studies on sharing without reading but, to me, that's perfectly fine; perhaps some of those they share with will be interested enough to read it. It’s something I’ve actually seen bloggers rant about and it’s baffling to me why they would be outraged over the “why”. I understand wanting to understand in order to maximize exposure but some people are just outraged.

I know it can be useful to form titles into questions for search as well. We've seen search inquiries in the past what were exact matches for question titled posts. Our YouTube videos titled as a question seem to do well as well. I believe that's because people often tend to ask Google a question rather than search for a particular phrase. That wouldn't explain the Twitter studies though, since Google can't index the tweets. Nice topic Adi :)

Wow Ileane, I forgot you had this blog. I just subscribed so I won't miss it again in the future. I didn't see a link but Feedly found it.

It looks like we have the same phone now. I love my Galaxy.

It stands to reason that podcasts would continue to grow because smartphones and tablets are so popular. I've known about podcasts for a long time but it just wasn't convenient when I had no way to listen when away from the computer.

I agree Philip, If I'm writing about someone, they get a do-follow link. I guess I'm one of the bloggers that Matt was talking about in the first video in the playlist about. I also liked his response to the question about sites that use the no-follow tag on every link. It sounds to me that Google feels that's a bad idea as well.

I agree Ileane, I don't look for do-follow or no-follow because I KNOW there is very little, if any, SEO benefit from blog commenting. That's an old way of thinking that just won't die.

Like you. I'm a huge fan of CommentLuv and I use the Premium version. I highly recommend any blogger that is serious about blogging get CommentLuv Premium.

As far as follow/no-follow on my blog, there is only one way to get a do-follow link from a comment and that's by +1'ing it from within the CommenLuv form. I do this because regular readers already know it and those that really read my blog will learn it. I do reserve the right to remove the do-follow attribute, like you mentioned, if I don't feel the link is relevant. I just removed the do-follow from a comment link going to a car wash directory. I have nothing against a car wash site, there's just nothing to gain, for either site, to be interlinked like that. Not even in a comment. But, also like you mentioned, that link is still there for other readers to click on if they are interested. The best way to generate that click is to stand out with the best comment on the page.

Thanks for the mention; I always say that in the traditional business, we would be competitors. In our World, the World of Blogging, I love Basic Blog Tips and I love Ileane. I'm so glad bloggers don't follow the corporate cut-throat business.

Thanks Abhi, guest posts are great but seem to take as mch work, if not more, than writing them ourselves. I do enjoy different perspectives for our readers though, that's a big plus.

I'm actually one there now and Abhi sent me a message via BE chat to let me know you replied. See, I'm pretty slow to respond myself. :)
