President Obama's double-talk on Iran is no substitute for an unambiguous moral stance, and no amount of spin is going to change that.

Steve, I can only surmise that your defense of these comedians is rooted in some kind of misguided sense of nobility, perhaps a collegial sympathy for these offenders.

But the decent layperson looks at them and doesn't see that, doesn't care about the burdens and perils of your profession. He sees inhuman scum, pouring hatred onto the objects of their derision; he asks himself whether this is really comedy as he has known it or whether some dangerous lines are being crossed.

Also, I think the perception that comedians have become de facto attack dogs for the powers-that-be may also figure into the response. It adds a disturbing dimension to the issue.
