Dear Sir: I thank you very much for your post. I guess us old goats (I am 58) need to hang together! If Dodd was competent, he had to know what was coming. If just a fool, he should resign in disgrace rather than calling for replacement of GM's CEO. He is not resigning, but resurgent in his majesty as a savant. This is a clear statement of moral and intellectual bankruptcy. He knew, I think, and he let it happen. Um, treason of a sort, for the pain inflicted on so many people. How can such dereliction of duty be honorable?

Some people get wealthier than others, maybe it is envy of them that animates you, since you have no capacity or interest to compete, just enough self-esteem to think your lifestyle should be the baseline for "good people" Is this the case? Well, you are right in a way, a socialist government with all the guns and the power to do whatever is "necessary" may get "the trains to run on time", which is the kind of organization that caught FDR's attention and admiration and led to some of the poorer ideas of the New Deal. Suffice it to say FDR would have had some problems getting re-elected without a war. That is not a great recommendation to imitate his policies as the Great One wants to. You imagine that capitalism has brought us to our current state. You should do your homework. The subprime mess begins with government policy. The enabling feature of spreading this disease is not a free-market decision to lend based on ecomomics, but a political imperative (which provided Obama most of his tiny experience of employment when he was not supping at the public trough, filing lawsuits for ACORN to force banks to lend based on race, not creditworthiness). .

Kevan, we are of the same mind but I am an older guy without a lot of skill in hand-to-hand combat with multiple assailants. The choice of jail or beaten is one forced on us by people like Mike Bloomberg, who has all the taxpayer armed security he could ask for, and millions of personal wealth to pay for whatever isn't otherwise paid for..but he knows we slobbos don't need to worry about self-defense..."his boys will handle it all". That is low-grade night soil, but it sells among the "liberal and caring" portion of the political class, and their drones eat it up. I guess it is a death wish, or a release from personal responsibility such voters seek. Daddy will see to it, go back to sleep. Self-defense starts with the individual, and there is no morality in calling 911 and dying because when seconds count, the police are just minutes away. It has happened twice in as many months out here in Los Angeles...that the newspapers will print it. The LA Times is very in favor of disarming the law-abiding, and manages the news. further...

We have our crazies killing people, to be sure. Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Palestine (where is that country?) don't have crazies and violent criminals? Really? I guess they are the only countries that don't, because it seems every other country has some violent loons and criminals. Even the socialist paradise of Cuba has its outlaws, and I don't mean the Ladies In White, though they may offend you. How about "honor killings" in the Muslim community? Do they make sense to you? Those two girls in TX, not far from you, were they? So their father is more rational than the VT shooter? I don't think so, what do you think? We have more thoughts to exchange and I look forward to it. I am sad for all engulfed in wars. I have read a lot of history about war, how to and the results. My conclusion, which is colored by my own brushes with evil, is to second the idea that war is not worst thing man can face. I guess you know what the worst thing is.

As to school shootings, the PLO used to target Israeli schools until the teachers and older kids started shooting back effectively. Since then very few school shootings. I dunno about any school shootings in the countries you talk about...does that make those countries better than the US in some way? Maybe so, but I would like to hear what you think. The Columbine and VT shootings, as the PLO shootings at Israeli schools, are proof of the fact that self-defense starts with the individual. See my essay on the 2nd Amendment in the CF archives. Farah, my point about being children of the same book is exactly that...and we share that, why are we fighting? Why do people march in support of wiping out the US and Israel when supposedly we have a major life factor in common? I have no expectation that all countries will ever be like the US and therefore worse, or better. Some are better, some are worse. Overall, I think the US is the best game in town even with Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House (when she takes time off from book tours and saving the planet). Further...

Nice tunnels between Gaza and Egypt. If you did not see the IADF pictures...I have some military experience...the secondary explosions caused by munitions stored or in transit in the tunnels were pretty clear. Um, peace is the first consideration of Hamas? I think not, nothing said in public supports the idea, and the secondaries indicate preparations for war. Perhaps you would happily take incoming missiles from Mexico, people who don't like you or your religion. Some people won't. I wouldn't. Do you expect the US government to protect you from terrorists? Or is terrorism fine with you when the "right" people are getting hurt? No difference between that attitude and the people who shoved others onto trains for the camping trip of a lifetime in Europe, 1939-45.

I am glad you are have your allegiances straight, Palestinian first, American second. It appears that Egypt has closed the transit point for Palestinians to exit Gaza. Why do you call this an Israeli siege, excusing other Arabs from keeping your people penned up? Let us at least be accurate as to who has whom bottled up in Gaza. Also, I dunno how you claim, or perhaps you don't, that Hamas is "defending Palestinians" by firing mortars and unguided rockets against Israeli civilian targets? People going to the market, kids in schools, are not able to oppress your people so far as I can see. Enlighten me, please.

Absolutely, there are good people getting hurt on the "Palestinian side" and on the Israeli side, with the steady incoming Quassams. Is death through violence something you wish to avoid? Then let's talk about ALL the death through violence, to include the two Palestinian girls killed by a Hamas missile which went off course.
