I am a first generation atheist. For the first couple years after my deconversion I did have some of the same emotions and reactions that you discuss in this post. However, I have noticed as the years tick by that I don't cry out to the universe as much. I also have found out that the music previously labeled "devil music" is pretty good.

This post has got me thinking though about how great my kids are going to have it. I don't think that they will be able to understand why my husband and I believed all the crazy things that we did.

Thanks for the comments. I hope your son has more teachers like this one, especially in science classes.

I have a friend that was in a similar situation, except he didn't want to take the class. He did find another job, but he will have to work 5 years longer than he would have had to at his old job. It would be nice if these places allowed workers to take a class on the weekends to train for the advances in their industry.

I was really surprised when I had read that he was actually going to hold a press conference and even mumbled to myself that he probably hasn't talked to a lawyer yet.

That is a great story! Every parent needs to know CPR and the Heimlich maneuver I am just so glad that he was able to talk her through it. (Side Note: Does that guy look old enough to have a son? or a dispatcher?)

First of all as an atheist I don't hate god, I simply don't believe in him. It is like how you feel towards Santa, you don't hate him, you just don't believe in him. Also, in America there is a separation between church and state for a reason. Everyone should have the right to go to a public school and not have religion forced on them. Besides, which religion should be taught in schools? This country is made up of people that believe in a myriad of different religions and even those that are of the same religion worship god in many different ways. If parents want their children to learn about god they can send them to a private school or take them to church, but the public school is not the place for religion to be taught.

Also, there is no evidence that any god created us or anything else. In the future if you wish to leave comments on my blog or any other atheist blog you should learn more about us and stick to the facts rather than making all kinds of statements with no evidence to support them.

I know that you don't respect my opinion, it is obvious from your tone/words. My feeling are not hurt by your words, I have been told much worse things by those that don't understand how I could believe that there is no god.

Poe and/or troll either way it's funny, but yet so stupid that there are people that actually think that way.
