Yes, Perot helped elect Clinton. That effect on the 1992 election was discussed in a previous article (I believe it was on this site). The Perot effect actually emphasizes Thomas' point.

Clinton was elected mostly without the help of the liberal establishment, thereby being free to move to the center and win another term. Obama, however, is completely tied to every last organization which helped elect him- thus making it even worse for him if he tries to move to the center.

Actually (as you narrowly avoided pointing out), the subject of slavery was a topic of discussion during the constitutional convention. Jefferson himself was in favor (as he had tried in Virginia previously) to put in language that would eliminate slavery within a generation. Unfortunately, at that time it was just as divisive an issue as it was in future generations.

The Constitution is sound. Not perfect, but sound. The issue of slavery was resolved and the 'racial prejudices' which you believe still exist are gone in just about every citizen of the United States. Calling President Clinton the first black president isn't racist- is reaffirming a title that his own supporters bestowed on him

And those four are just enough to return us back to where we were in January!

Absolutely. Health Care does not fall under any of the Article 1 Section 8 Provisions under the Constitution, therefore not only wrong, but illegal.

Their only defense is ol' standby: to provide for the general welfare of the US.

Before Jefferson ended his time as President, he had already decided it was time to take out that statement in the Constitution. Too bad it never happened.

With the exception of the economy, the economy is doing great.

The federal government used to spend around 19% of the GDP annually. Now that number is in the 30% range. Perhaps that is what he was referring to, in reality?

"The Government has grown at a rapid pace in the last nine months. This is proof positive that the economy will soon follow." - Timmy

Though we have yet to stoop to sending a veteran to jail for handing in an illegal firearm, similar events are taking place on a smaller scale all around the country under the guise of "Zero-Tolerance" laws. Zero Tolerance laws do not, in fact, help to eliminate the crime, but serve to force well intentioned citizens to do nothing, lest they also be punished.

The death of common sense is the catalyst for many unjust rulings.

The biggest differences between the civil courts and a military tribunal have to do with the courts themselves. Ever since the courts were established, precedents and rulings have been made outside of the constitution, according to whatever moral or political wind is popular in that day. Miranda rights are an excellent example.

Military tribunals, however, have largely remained outside such rulings. Though the rule of law is the same, certain feel-good procedures implemented by the red-tape experts does not apply.

In Missouri, only 20% of stimulus money ever enters the private sector. The vast majority is spent on public Universities, public works departments, and small 'community organizing' units within the state.

Upon a closer look at many locations within Missouri, certain inaccuracies become apparent: $10 million which saved 27 jobs in a housing project which only has 5 employees, $5 million to an old homeless shelter which is closed down.

These inaccuracies, being so widespread, cannot be mistakes. They are the bona fide truth. It is a systemic scam of taxpayer money.

Although in all other respects a great man and a great President, President Lincoln stripped from the states the ultimate bargaining chip which they had held onto since the day they entered the Union. The threat of replacement (the people's right) and the threat of secession (the state's right) were both in place to check the power of the Federal government until the Civil war.

Slavery was wrong. However, forcing a state (or group of states) to remain part of the union was wrong as well. The North had no constitutional right to force the South to be a part of the union when they did not wish to be. Perhaps the southern term for the war is correct, after all- the war of northern aggression.
