They still got average everyday jobs in the military, kitchen workers, truck drivers, radio, computer repair etc.
To me (retired on SS 12K per year) 34k is a GOOD salary.

In 1958, I joined the USAF right out of H.S.; the pay was $60 per month!!! At the 3.5 year mark, I was 2-stripper and the pay had risen to $140 per month. Now that would be $34,000????? That FAR exceeds inflation.
That seems like GOOD pay. Remember, not EVERYONE is a infantryman. Most jobs don't carry a gun. Those that do should get more; those that don't...
