He is no dummy. The way I understood what he was saying was not that he proposed to cut the defense money, but distribute it differently. I'm not sure that I agree with the F-22 being cut, but for the price of (1) F-22, how many F-16's or F-18's could we buy. There are some things in the military planning stages that are so expensive that it takes up a huge portion of the budget to get a few. We have a lot of advanced weapons, both for offense and defense, that are proven, and are far ahead of our adversaries. Of what I have heard Mr. Gates is proposing that we spend more to produce these proven items... But, I would like to see, in writing so as to have time to go through it, exactly what this is saying... No industry can last by paying workers far more than the norm in salary.
