That's an excellent question and one I ask almost daily. I for one am conservative on most issues social or fiscal.

That being said, my religion has had little to no influence on those decisions. Gay marriage for example I do not condemn but rather condemn the creation of any law requiring a population to accept or deny it. Either one would inevitably become a Jim Crowe law and eventually be a legal foothold for special rights interests. Special rights (i.e. Affirmative Action, Scholarships, etc.) I do not feel a person deserves based on sexual preference.

"Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views." -WFB

I always found that to be not only humorous but true. As an actor and a graduate of a very liberal college (redundant?) I am unable to discuss these issues with my friends as the simple math involved in any argument against most of what Obama is willfully disregarded and rendered inconsequential.

Each day I am more and more reminded of the videos of Hitler's youth singing songs to the Fuhrer. And so many of these people, whose intelligence I greatly respect on all but political issues, can't (or won't) listen to a coherent, logical argument that contradicts their own view.

Perhaps we can't argue with them because their only weapon is volume. If allowed to speak, a conservative argument will invariably be the sensical one while the liberal argument, shown to be full of fallacy and lofty prerequisite happenstance, falls to pieces.
