Sorry to hear you\\\'re having some problems with the sound on your computer. Well, there can be a myriad of reasons. Normally, the sounds placed on my website are formatted as mp3s, which is a pretty standard format on most PC/Mac machines and should work by default. You may have to ask someone to look at your machine\\\'s specs and determine the proper configuration. I hope this technical problem can be resolved very soon.

As for exercise 2:
-->1) How does he walk (marcher)? The answer should be \\\"Comment marche-t-il?\\\" or \\\"Comment est-ce qu\\\'il marche?\\\"
-->3) How do you work? (double check the spelling of the verb \\\"travailler\\\". It should be \\\"Comment est-ce que tu travaiLLes?\\\" with 2 Ls.
-->4) The answer should be \\\"Comment est-ce qu\\\'elle danse?\\\"
--> 5) How do we shave? = \\\"Comment est-ce que nous nous rasons?\\\" or \\\"Comment nous rasons-nous\\\"?

You have to start from the very beginning and follow this simple syntax: Subject + Verb + Object...I designed my lessons in that order...Lesson 1 (week 1) is about the subject pronouns (je, tu il/elle/on, etc), then when you are comfortable with them, you can start learning the auxiliary verbs être and avoir, etc. Everything is listed on the site. Check the Youtube Download menu (red horizontal bar on top of page.) Let me know if you have any problem.

Bonjour Jay. Use "Ils" for boys and "masculine" objects (yes, things do have gender in French). Use "elles" for girls and feminine objects. Use "ils" for mixed groups (boys and girls, even if there is just one masculine object/person against thousands of feminine objects/persons, "ILS" will be used). As for "it", it depends on what you want to say. Check this out: English: "Inner beauty is necessary; it is really necessary" --> French: "La beauté intérieure est nécessaire. Elle est vraiment nécessaire" As you can see from this example, beauty (it) was translated into the subject pronoun "elle". We will use "il" if masculine, or sometimes, we will use a neutral pronoun in the form of "ce/c' ", "ceci" or "cela", for example, "it is beautiful" will be "c'est beau". I hope this helps. Merci!

Your definition of the Direct Object is quite correct. It is called a DIRECT OBJECT mainly because this object "directly" follows the verb. We might also say that a direct object in a sentence is an object upon which the verb "acts". For example: "Je mange une banane" (I eat a banana) une banane is the direct object because the action of "mange" (eat) is upon "une banane" Besides, you could also say that there is nothing standing between the verb and the object. Their relation is therefore "direct"

Now, back to your own examples.

1. "Je fréquente l'école" is correct! There is a direct object here.

2. "Tu conduis la voiture" is also correct! The action of the verb "conduis" is upon "voiture"

3. here, the correct answer will be "Elle travaille AU magasin" (or) "Elle travaille DANS le magasin." There is no direct object here because "She does NOT work the shop", rather "She works AT the shop". "Le magasin" cannot follow directly the verb "travailleThere needs to be a "place" indicator between them. Ihope this helps!
