Think the Navy had something called the Devastator that wasn't anywhere near capable either. Course there was also the B-32 Terminator that gobbled up lots of money and was best forgotten, The P-75 Eagle, The Airacuda,... Then in the 50s we had all kinds of failures, less so in the 60s. But back then they cost 1/20th as much as now.

Just a question. Do they have anything in the Arctic or the Indian Ocean? Like SURTASS?

Got a question about 'the money'. Since there are (supposedly) so many Halls throughout the land, would it be a good idea to give it to those Halls with the note that it should be used for the 'good' of the Hall (like you know veteran's camp sites nearby, paying off their bills now and not giving it to the new CO, something other than Bingo, a real VSO that stays and keeps records of his job performance, an accountability card that shows where this 'new money' went.
While i was involved with one of them, i noticed they had some good ideas going where they gave out scholarships, help for Vets needing to pay bills or get the electricity shut off, helping needy folks at XMAS time, Volunteer construction for BLDGS, Burial services...etc.
Unfortunately a lot of bickering went on too and just about all of these good programs were constantly under fire and led to resignations (for good or bad) all the time. Guess they need to recognize what they are doing, how they do it and can it be run better. How about a Performance Report or Evaluations every year for the post Commanders? It will take a long time though, maybe too late.

yeah, imagine setting it up and since you have to have lots of power, all the lights on the base go dim when they are taking off (hope not).

Wait a minute! I know what they are Really going to be used for. Ya''ll guys remember all those 'clunkers for cash' about a year ago. Think they're going to be tied together somehow.

Oh yeah as I remember I used to be On the Coral sea and the waist cat always worked. On the Midway, (sister ship) it broke down so much they took it out and only used the two in front. Course then I transferred to the Independence, they had Four cats and the pace was slower cause they had twice as many cats. Less people getting hurt too

Hmmm. There's a thought. How hard would it be to set up this type as opposed to the old steam Catapult. Say in a place where they need planes but not a Carrier? Or the cost benefit ratio?

Ya know with a little bit of work, we could the old "who's on first, what's on second, I don't know is on third" routine... LOL

It was probably another group of folks that didn't have that on their list (Army thought Air Force already got it and Air force was too busy saving lives to worry about it.
