Sonny119 finally (after numerous comments by many people here) rightly points out the difference between Presidents Kennedy and Obama from an economic standpoint. President Kennedy cut taxes that brought down inflation and unemployment over the next several years (I just looked it up.) President Obama borrowed and spent IOUs, and inflation and unemployment have both gone up since he's been President. One note: althought inflation was already pretty low when both presidents took office.

I think Sonny119 has been listening too much to Sean Hannity pertaining to Southern Dems vs. Northern GOPers. I like Sean Hannity, but he puts out a pretty shallow analysis of the U.S. Civil Rights movement. Many northern GOP people, as with northern Dems at that time, were being "invaded" in their eyes by blacks moving up to the North from the South; then--suddenly--these northerners were big civil rights advocates, trying to integrate (i.e., keep) the blacks in the South. They didn't want their more generous gov't. benefits being raided. I'm not excusing white southern racism, but MONEY always needs to be looked at here, as with most things.

Parents should do both: blame Hollywood and take responsibility.

Scary stuff from Mr. Gaffney, who knows the region of which he speaks. I hope he continues to keep a close eye on this matter during Years 2011-2012.

Something to fill in on a slow news day. This is just a sop to the left. It has no chance in Congress of going anywhere. Since the Y2010 election, President Obama has been unable to do anything of substance for the left. So he does superficial things such as criticizing conservative proposals, and now making meaningless threats toward Israel. Now if he were to at some point seem friendly toward the Muslim Brotherhood, then that would be newsworthy.

Republicans wanting alligators to eat illegal aliens? A pretty awful death. In Tucson earlier this year, the President begged for verbal civility. I guess he has changed his mind again with his use of very uncivil imagery. If Sarah Palin had said something like this about the President, the liberal mainstream media would go ballistic.

The Left better be careful: Andrew Breitbart is a very thorough and insightful researcher. He will find every incendiary remark made by Democrat public officials and liberals over the last decade, and put them out to all conservative news agencies. You can't, for example, tell me that the Black Lackeys who the sneaky white liberals always send out to say crazy things haven't made some very wild, incendiary remarks about whites and conservatives. Some fellow on one of the Comments sections of Politico insightully pointed out that the leftist, middle-eastern terrorist who shot up the Killeen, Texas army base, was never linked by conservatives to liberal public officials; we would never do something so irresponsible.

I think Mr. Breitbart is going to have a field day with these leftist lunatics, who appear to want to harm Sarah Palin in the same way they are falsely accusing her of doing. They're total scumbags who I'm certain Mr. Breitbart is going to eviscerate.

Violent revolution? I heard this same kind of talk about thirty years ago when Jimmy Carter, gas rationing, very high unemployment, and stagflation were the norm, and no one rioted. Instead Ronald Reagan was elected. The GOP aren't going to get anything past Barack Obama's veto for the next two years. Their stated willingness to try on ObamaCare puts Obama on the defensive, but it only tries to stop future horrors. It appears the GOP has made a calculated decision to push budget sanity, but not push any growth legislation (business tax cuts, investor tax cuts) lest a desperate Obama were to surprisingly sign it, and the economy takes off, and Obama becomes tough to beat. So expect more pain until Obama is voted out. But violent revolution? I can't see it.

I couldn't agree with you more about principle. But you have to be smart starting out. Simply do nothing on spending, and you control spending---it's frozen---as you try to stimulate growth by helping business and investors. Then go for budget cutting. In 1995, Newt & Co. got hurt right off the bat by doing it on principle, and then every politician was afraid of principle, and we got more of Bubba Clinton, then George W. Bush, then Barack Obama, until things are out of control. And people talk big about cutting entitlements and government cuts until their ox is gored; or their parents or some other relative is affected, then they turn on you. Many of these Tea Party people will turn on you in a second if their ox is gored. Just wait and see. So get growth going, budget freeze, and repeal ObamaCare. And no more government programs that hook people like very bad drugs do.

If the Republicans pick up the House, they will probably then have working control of the Senate because of frightened Red State Democrats up for reelection in Nov. 2012. You might even see Nelson of Nebraska, Pryor of Arkansas, and Webb of Virginia, switch parties. Then, once in control, the GOP needs to be careful they don't fall into the trap of budget restraint rather than tax cuts for growth. Right off the bat in Jan. 2011 they need to put Obama further on the defensive by forcing him to veto tax cuts for business. His animosity toward business is severely hurting him and the Dems.
