I think one point people are missing though is what Avatar actually means in term of politics, etc. The Earth of Avatar is a ruined planet, economically and ecologically. Well, I cannot see how that can mean anything other than President "Hope and Change" Obama turns out to be a massive failure. Of course, one interpretation is that Obama did not achieve what he wished to and the evil cons got their way eventually destroying everything. I don't think that is it though. I think the only thing we can really take from it is that Obama got his health care overhaul and got cap and trade and continued spending in massively unsustainable ways which, of course, led to a total collapse of the world economic system. From there, yeah I can see the humans of Avatar developing into planet destroying monsters.
