How many times have we heard a newly elected politician say.... the people have spoken...I have a mandate to... and then the politician goes off and does what he wants until the next time the voter is needed again in the next election. We the voter need a way to deliver a mandate that is clear and concise but has teeth and actually holds the politician accountable to that mandate! That's one of the things we need to work on.
While I can agree with Remington's Ideal, I just don't see the Republican's stepping up to the plate. Then, if we trust them again, how can we be sure we won't have the same Grand Old Party with the same old solutions to the new problems we face. We need a way to hand the next standard bearer a real mandate dictated by the voters. That mandate should be decisive and have teeth with a way to constantly remind the politician just who it was that delivered the vote. The mandate should be reviewable and enforceable. Not just some words said trhe day after the election only to be forgotten the day after. That should be our clarion call. Our objective in how we elect the next standard bearer of our movement.
It seems to me that if the Republicans were really serious about rebranding themselves, they would already be well on their way. They act ike a ship without a rudder. They cannot sit this out and hope to win the next round by default. We the people are going to have to seriously consider moving to a third party (the Constitution party?) for meaningful results in changing government.
