I'll agree with you on this one Jesse, I saw topical marketing as huge at this year's SXSW. We've heard "content is king" for ages now, but it seemed more than ever that CONTEXT is as well.

Hi Tommy,

That is definitely a good extra bit of advice for those who are also doing Facebook ads. Applying that information to your unpaid fan page management could be very effective. Is this something you are doing on your page? How is it working out?

Thank you for your comment Andrew, and I totally agree. I want to highlight your last point--the fact that social media is a tool. By looking at social media as a tool, you help yourself define how and where to use it, and to what ends. Hiring for someone who knows how, when, and where to use it effectively is key.

Thank you Ramin for your comment. You definitely raise a lot of good points, but I still think that at a very basic level, the movie provides good lessons for start-ups. Not every company can or will be Facebook, that is completely right. However, Zuckerberg's story provides a lot of lessons. I think that while entrepreneurs often need to make many compromises along the way, keeping your eye on the ball--or the 3,000lb marlin, as it may be, is key.

Thank you so much for your comment, I totally agree. It is hard to watch the movie and NOT respect Zuckerberg for his intensity and vision.

Hi Dylan, if you want to translate and post in Korean that is fine with me, as long as you attribute it to SmartBlog on Social Media. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment. I think that the idea of communicating at off hours is totally dependent, as you mention, to where your audience is located. I have to say, however, that I have started posting at "off" hours for me (after work, weekends) and I have seen great engagement. It could be worth a test run for you! Good luck.

Great post Jesse. I'm sure a big part of this is figuring out where social media fits in a particular organization, whether it be marketing, PR, communications, ect. Did they touch on that at all in the session?
