I'd love it if Antonio would come to my house in south Florida and design my patio, and maybe even help me solve a design problem I'm having in my living room and dining room. I think he's a very good designer, who takes risks that work. I look forward to seeing his show and seeing what he does with the challeges he is given.
I only have one question (not a criticism, just a question). Why all the tats?
He is unique and that is what HGTV needs, not a copy of David or Vern. I am so sorry that people are being so rude about this. If they don't like his show, don't watch it. Some of Antonio's critics have not really been watching. They seem to forget how he helped another designer get finished in one of the early shows, how he helped diffuse the tension in the green room by just being pleasant and even funny. He seems to work well with his crew...at least what we saw of the way he worked with them was impressive. He won. So give him a chance to show what he's got.
You had a right to be upet when you specifically asked to have the colors in the rug reflected in the room. In the case of the military family, he listened to "neutral" and came up with a color that was neutral, just not boring. And they liked it, and he was right. Also, while an heirloom rug certainly cannot and should not be replaced, paint color on walls can easily be!
You are being childish. What nonsense! If you don't want to watch Antonio's show, don't. What in heaven's name is so important here that you would instigate a boycott? Good heavens!
I found Dan's work to be "nice" but nothing unusual. There was a great line in "A Thousand Clowns" when the girl friend decorates her friend's apartment as a surprise, and he comes in, looks at it and says, "Help, I've been attacked by 'House Beautiful'!" That's the way I felt about Dan's designs. Sweet, ordinary, pleasant designs, but nothing you can't find everywhere.
So I'm glad they chose Antonio, and I'm I am really looking forward to his show.
Apparently you weren't watching when Antonio helped one of the designers who was running out of time.
And you didn't watch the green room segments when he diffused the tension with humor. And you didn't see how well he got on with his great crew on the last segment. Of course, while all of these things are significant, and should be considered, the prime consideration is the design talent, and almost everything that Antonio did had an unexpected spin, except the kitchen which was attractive and practical. I liked his work from the beginning, and he was chosen first to stay most weeks. I look forward to his show.
I found Antonio's design ideas creative, edgy and true to the idea that designers can take risks and succeed. His adamant refusal to paint more beige for the Army family was courageous, and, as it turned out, right. He stayed neutral with the color he chose, it just wasn't more beige. His whimsical ideas for children's rooms were delightful, and the fireplace surround in the house, as well as closing the wall in the bedroom and adding the sink in the master suite showed outside the box thought and consideration of the homeowner's needs. Downstairs, he opened up the room and created a clean bright kitchen that is practical and a pleasure to use. He established great rapport with the people he worked with as well as his clients. Last, he is his own guy, he has a strong personality which I found delightful. I think he will bring a new dimention to HGTV. Good choice.
