SocialYell Sustainability News : Planned Obsolescence and Culture

so true, my next computer is definitely going to be a Mac. but what about the planned obsolescence that is totally based on cultural thought. advertising telling us you can't wear that shirt it's out of style this year, you NEED a new one to be happy! i think this may be even more dangerous than the low quality of physical products for exactly your reason. consumers will find an alternative of better quality. but what if the obsolescence is in our heads??

SocialYell Sustainability News : Eucalyptus and Neem Make for Super-Sustainable Trees

It makes sense to be wary of corporatizing these plants and making them the equivalent of corn. But in areas where environmental degradation and poverty are rampant these types of trees have the potential to help. Especially in places they are native. So maybe from a global consumer perspective in the long run the use of these trees wouldn't be completely sustainable but from a development viewpoint they could be great tools.
