The guy is in an inpatient facility? I'm sorry, but when did sex with 22 year old women become serious sexual deviancy? So he had an affair, big deal. Let me tell you something, when I'm not attracted to 22 year olds anymore, my prostate won't work anyway.

Will there be a post where you discuss how these holes should be filled? If you're waiving your rights on Francoeur and keeping Pagan on the pine, then who plays the outfield. (I surely hope you're not going to call Francoeur a below average fielder one day and say the Mets should sign Holliday on another.)

All I know is that I thought I was going to have a heart attack practically the whole time I was in Colombia.

$544,197 is over $500,000, or almost 550,000, not "Almost $600,000".

No need to be sensationalist, here.

It has been my belief for around a year now that Oliver Perez belongs in the bullpen. How many games has he had where he's been great for 3, even 4 innings, before the inevitable implosion. Why not make him pitch in situations where you are not relying on him pitching several more innings, making him all the more yankable when he gets erratic. If his problem is focus, why not let him concentrate all his energy 12-20 pitches instead of 112-120? Despite his trouble going deep into games, his arm is strong, and he could potentially be a workhorse. HIs stuff is good, all you can do is stir the pot a little and hope the recipe comes together.

To me, this seems like a huge mistake. If the price is right, I would support such a signing, but I don't think Holliday is coming at a bargain, so I oppose the idea for the following reasons. First of all, it is the starting rotation that needs to be improved, whether there's anyone truly worthwhile out there or not. In addition, were any word to be done on the lineup, I would like to see it come at C more than anywhere else. And while I am willing to let the current Homre Run King take another crack at First, I would also consider that position a higher priority than Left. Furthermore, Angel Pagan has proven that he is a legitimate Major Leaguer. That said, I get the impression that he's a very proud guy, and that--after working for several years, overcoming injuries, and finally performing famously when his time did come up--he might take a huge, irreversable step backward if he relegated to the bench again. And it would be a bit of a tragedy to ruin a player with the physical abilities he has been blessed with, including speed, power, and an ability to get on base (a triple-threat, so to speak, in that cavernous stadium in Flushing.) Since there are no real free agent Catchers out there (unless the Sox inexplicable let Martinez go), however, I believe the Mets may decide it is in their best interests to trade Pagan in a package for a good Catcher, and sign Holliday to fill the vacuum. Just as long as they don't let him go to waste, rotting on the shelf.

Gary, Keith, and Ron are the only core that the Mets should consider indivisible.

I'm surprised so few people voted for the Phillies, and would instead root for an American League team, not to say anything of the 35 who would root for the Evil Empire.

The Mets, at the very core of their identity, represent an abiding resentment (and in some fans, even hatred) of the Yankees in particular, and to a degree, of American League baseball in general.

Sure, the Phillies are division rivals, and that rivalry has had a bit of heat in the last few years, but except for a few of the guys who run their mouths on that team, I don't really have a problem with their guys. In fact, I like the toughness they bring to the game, and that they seem like their out there to play, not to get paid. I would trade teams in a heartbeat, when I'm completely honest.

The Red Sox and especially the Yankees, on the other hand, are for the most part, everything I despise about this sport.
