Actually all crimes involving banks fall under federal jurisdiction. ATM skimming is classified an indentity crime and is handled by the US Secret Service.
At least we know either Rahm or Obermann is reading Big Govt. today. LOL!! So when you say "responsible for the past" did you perhaps forget that the House and Senate that passes all the legislation in this country has been controlled by the Democrats the past 6 or 8 years? If you want to talk about rebranding, how about this one....liberal, socialist-leaning, inexperienced, empty-suit politician that was created by the incredibly corrupt Chicago political machine being rebranding as a sign of change to the political landscape of America. Now that is some of the best PR work in the history up their with Ponzi, Madoff & PT Barnum
As if anyone should be surprised by this latest revelation. ACORN is just like any other white-collar criminal enterprise in so many ways. It is always trying to rename/reorganize itself to stay one step ahead of the law whether it be federal regulators, IRS, FBI, congressional inquiries, etc. They receive direct and indirect support from various politicians or politically appointees to avoid the aforementioned law enforcement personnel. They also receieve financial support from politically affliated individuals or groups who not so coincidently provide large groups of donations to the policitians mentioned earlier. They work in lockstep with the politicians to provide handouts (legal and illegal) to secure them the votes they require to stay in office and continue the cycle of corruption. It really is a very common practice in many areas such as DC, Louisiana and Chicago to name a few.
As for satellite being worse during storms, I would disagree. We had satellite in two other towns before moving here and virtually never had any problems during bad weather. We get fuzzy or pixilated signals on a regular basis not to mention the outages with MC. Just out of curiousity how do you think Mediacom gets all the signals they send to you over the cable wire?? I am guessing the gigantic Satellite dishes sitting next to their building. So unless the weather is always clear and sunny on Council street, I am pretty sure bad weather affects their signal as well.
The biggest problem with Mediacom is their Customer Service is terrible. I called several times last night over the course of 3 or 4 hours and got a busy signal everytime. No front end message, no option to leave voice mail, just busy. When and if you get through, they never can provide any concrete information about the problems or generously offer to send out a service person in 4 or 5 days!! One Cust Serv rep last year told me they do not have anywhere near the number of repair people they really need and hence the long wait times to have them come out. They also said new service and upgrades are prioritized above existing customer problems as they generate money and service calls don't. How's that for caring about your customers!!
As a regular viewer of Man Vs Food, my wife and I were very happy to see he was coming to Iowa City. The show was a lot of fun and Adam certainly comes across exactly as he does on his show, an average guy that loves food and loves sharing his experiences with others. The opening portion really showed how passionate he was about food and its history. It also made some excellent points of how all persons from all societies share a common thread through food. The cooking portion of the show, while very basic, was a good fit for the large number of young people in the crowd. He demonstrated that a delicious meal can be made very simply and doesn't require a $10K oven, gourmet training or hours of time. He was very gracious with all that stayed afterwards answering questions, signing autographs and posing for pictures. Overall, it was a great experience and I hope he comes back to the area sometime soon.
We are very much looking forward to going to the show tonight. I am a big fan of supporting locally-owned restaurants and greatly enjoy finding them whenever I travel. His show has given me a bunch of new places to try someday. I like that he seems like an average guy you could hang out with, watch a game and eat a ton of good food. He doesn't come across with the pretense of a lot of cooking shows on TV where they throw things, curse out people and fix gourmet food most people could never make or afford in a restaurant. Who doesn't eating like pizza, burgers, BBQ, burritos, etc.
I posted some additional information I hope readers find useful. There is a lot to the admin side of HIPAA regulation, so it is certainly possible that some additional disclosure to help clarify things for people would be possible. Because of the high cost of potential fines and/or litigation, most organizations tend to be pretty conservative in nature regarding IIHI disclosure. One thing to consider is that many hospitals in Iowa and other states are small, regional institutions with few deaths in a particular day. With that being the case it might not be that difficult to figure out a persons name if you have a specific town and date of death.
Seasonal flu VS novel h1n1 deaths/illness:
Worldwide 5 to 15% of the population gets the seasonal flu every year with 250,000 to 500,000 flu-related deaths. (36,000 people die and 200,000 are hospitalized in the US) Of those the majority are persons at high risk due to age or other illness. In comparison there were only 429 confirmed H1N1 novel deaths reported worldwide as of July even though it now estimated that millions of people have had H1N1. Symptoms of novel h1n1 have generally been very mild with few people actually requiring hospitalization. A similarity with previous deadly pandemics is that many of persons dying with novel h1n1 have been 20 to 40 and having less known health issues. As is the nature of flu viruses, the novel h1n1 virus will probably mutate and could become very problematic if the new variant is more potent. That is because we have no natural defense for it (since it’s new) and it is easily transmitted by coughing and sneezing. The current worst case estimates for novel h1n1 this flu season is absenteeism rates at schools or businesses of 30 to 40%. The very low death rate is not expected to change significantly barring a mutation.
The risk factors for novel H1N1 2009 are not different from any other flu. Heart disease, supressed immune system, diabetes, etc.
Besides the fact it is against the law, why on earth would you expect to be able to see someone's confidential medical information plastered on the Internet. Do a quick Google search on HIPAA and you will see all the rules around disclosure. A person that "knowingly" discloses individually identifiable health information is subject to criminal fine of up to $50,000, as well as imprisonment up to one year.
