I've been reading a lot about Woodstock lately. I find it pretty interesting. I am curious what the author of this article means by lives ruined. I also didn't know that the State of NY funded the cleanup.
There is an APU (Automated Postal Unit) at a nearby post office. It is like an ATM, just for mail. You can weight and buy postage for anything that will fit through the door of the thing, which is quite large. I use it whenever I can, and it allows me to avoid the lines and dealing with the clerks.
Oh, that reminds me of a post office story that happened to me once. I got to the counter, credit card in hand, and before I had a chance to say much, the clerk whipped the card out of my hand and stuck it halfway in his credit card machine. He didn't swipe it, he just wanted to warm up my card for the big event. From that day on, I hold my card close to my side so that the clerks can't reach for it before I am ready. I have a term for a clerk who thinks they know how to swipe your card better than you do: Bully Swiper.
When it comes to overnight mail, most people don't think of the USPS. Why, pray tell, was that your choice of conveyance? FedEx and UPS are the gold standard. I get what you are saying, but you got what your paid for. PS, I read your book.
The poster of Obama as the joker...is it on the cover of the LA Weekly? I didn't understand from this BH essay how or where this poster is appearing.
I have read that the beer klatch was Crowley's idea, but I find the whole thing repugnant. He was doing his job and this sort of thing is below his dignity. If anything, Obama should have held a beer party with himself as the only invited guest. He'd have to look in the mirror at his own inner racist and come to terms with himself.
I find the whole idea of Obama as reconcialator somewhat horrifying. It is so unpresidential. The dynamics of a meeting in which two of the players are friends and co-conspirators against a blue-collar worker seems lopsided. I can't imagine what got into the officer to agree on this, or his boss to sign off on it either. Pure foolishness. Obama would have been better off to say he was wrong to step into the fray. The officer should have stayed home.
Can you imagine what a beer bash would do to another sort of subject? How about pro-life forces meeting up with pro-abortion people in the white house, hosted by Obama? Doesn't it sort of trivialize the issue?
Just so that we can put this matter to rest, Obama is not a true believer in Christ. He isn't the anti-christ either, but he is a type of anti-christ.
...But we must also speak the truth - the man was not a hero, not a saint, and let us all hope our country never again sees another man like him.
This is sort of how I feel about Michael Jackson.
Always buy the car you want, not the car that gets the rebate. OTOH, can anyone tell me, can I go out and buy a cheap clunker and then trade it in and get the rebate? Or do I have to have owned it for a certain amount of time first?
I don't want universal healthcare, not because of the cost, but because of Washington's control over the states and individuals via this legislation. On the other hand, I wish that there was a more robust private purchase market out there, so that I can someday move on from my job-lock job where I get my health insurance. Maybe if the insurance companies had made such a product more available over the years and less dependent on preexisting conditions, we wouldn't be in such a mess today.
