I think you make some great points and I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I believe in and teach my daughters to be independent and self-reliant. I have been happily married for 19 years but my worth has nothing to do with my husband.

Yet, I don't think you are being realistic. There have been fairy tales about princes for hundreds of years. Girls will always dream about men sweeping them off of their feet. Is it realistic? No, but thats what these type of books and movies are for. Why do adult, married women love Jane Austen? Men escape into the world of science fiction, women escape into the world of romance.
