<description>Chris, I completely agree that we don&amp;#039;t have all the information. There is no mention of shift hours, number of calls responded to compared to a &amp;quot;normal&amp;quot; day, and there is no inkling of the successes that I&amp;#039;m sure occurred for Pittsburgh EMS... which is exactly my point.  Pittsburgh EMS, and for that matter ALL Public Safety/Public Health agencies, need to stop relying on the media to tell their stories. I would venture to say that the successes far outnumber the failures, but it is the failures that seem to garner all the attention. That needs to change and the only people who are going to be able to make that change happen is us. </description>

<description>I agree, too many departments undervalue the PIO position. While it&amp;#039;s understandable that during tough budgetary times departments look to trim and do more with less, I don&amp;#039;t think they realize that what they lose out on by not having a PIO is their need to tell the story as to why the budget cuts are not necessarily a good thing.  Oddly enough, it&amp;#039;s the same thing facing newsrooms around the nation, and they are the ones who actually report the news to begin with. </description>

I do however find it interesting that if you look at the results at 00:37 of the video, the bottom showing Tweet is from @USABreakingNews that is reiterating a news report from WFSB-TV of &amp;quot;More than 100 injured, 4 critically...&amp;quot; when according to the mayor&amp;#039;s press conference there were 5 deaths and 12 injuries. That is a pretty big range difference from my perspective.  I think it is imperative for agencies to be a source of trusted information and not add to the rumor mill and speculation that often accompany these events. Great job illustrating how an Agency can gather geo-located information using the Social Media tools. </description>

<description>Flash support seems to be handled in the Apps if need be, YouTube being the prime example. It would be nice for the web browsing experience, but I don&amp;#039;t think it&amp;#039;s a &amp;quot;must-have&amp;quot;. One of the things I think this will definitely do is set the bar higher for other devices. I wouldn&amp;#039;t be surprised if we saw a similar device running the Android OS with Flash Support and a pre-paid access plan similar if not cheaper than the one Apple has.  Apple sets the benchmark, now its time for the others to either meet it or exceed it. </description>

<description>I agree that we seem to surely be moving to a &amp;quot;Big Brother&amp;quot; type entity, although slower than what Orwell predicted and undoubtedly partially because of his prediction.  The &amp;quot;Little Brother&amp;quot; phenomenon is something that wasn&amp;#039;t predicted, but we need to address it all the same by educating and encouraging professionalism from those who represent our agencies in the day to day.  I am in totaly agreement that the tone needs to be set from the top so that it can trickle down, but it also needs to be a tangible effort and not just words on a paper. </description>

<description>I can&amp;#039;t help but pretty much agree with everything said here in regards to what the Paramedic would like to see, and what Agencies need to do.  Responders need to provide responsible communication.  Agencies need to both provide guidance to their Responders and create a Social Media presence, if for no other reason than to interact with their own Responders using it. </description>

<description>I think its important to understand the actual law when it comes to requiring consent when it comes to photos and videos.  Anything that is &amp;quot;in the public view&amp;quot; is considered photographable/videographable without the need for consent.  However, there are issues with such items being created by members of a service for public consumption.  For example an EMT or Paramedic should not be creating photographs or video of the rescue above because a) it conflicts with patient confidentiality and b) that is not what they are primarily there for or the job they have been empowered to perform.  There is the ability, on a state by state basis, for an Agency to assign personnel to perform the task of photographing and videotaping events in public view such as this even if they are a HIPAA Compliant Agency.  I personally would not post this news report on my Agency&amp;#039;s site for the simple fact that when the father was thanking the responders they appeared... standoffish.  I&amp;#039;m sure in their minds they appeared &amp;quot;cool&amp;quot; and &amp;quot;hardcore&amp;quot;, but that&amp;#039;s not necessarily the image I would want my Agency to portray to the public who would be looking for &amp;quot;warm&amp;quot; and &amp;quot;caring&amp;quot;. </description>
