I've always been a big believer of owning your own words, so it really doesn't bother me personally. I think inflammatory and disrespectful comments always have had consequences, but I think that with the Facebook integration there will be far less of them because they will indeed be tied to your actual name and face.

Unless you make a fake Facebook account...

Chris, I completely agree that we don't have all the information. There is no mention of shift hours, number of calls responded to compared to a "normal" day, and there is no inkling of the successes that I'm sure occurred for Pittsburgh EMS... which is exactly my point.

Pittsburgh EMS, and for that matter ALL Public Safety/Public Health agencies, need to stop relying on the media to tell their stories. I would venture to say that the successes far outnumber the failures, but it is the failures that seem to garner all the attention. That needs to change and the only people who are going to be able to make that change happen is us.

I agree, too many departments undervalue the PIO position. While it's understandable that during tough budgetary times departments look to trim and do more with less, I don't think they realize that what they lose out on by not having a PIO is their need to tell the story as to why the budget cuts are not necessarily a good thing.

Oddly enough, it's the same thing facing newsrooms around the nation, and they are the ones who actually report the news to begin with.

Breadcrumbs is a dynamic navigational menu used on primarily static sites to show a user where they are and how they got there, hence the name referring to a method to get back to where you had come from on a site.

Besides using both "Middleton" and "Middletown", I don't see a mistake.

I do however find it interesting that if you look at the results at 00:37 of the video, the bottom showing Tweet is from @USABreakingNews that is reiterating a news report from WFSB-TV of "More than 100 injured, 4 critically..." when according to the mayor's press conference there were 5 deaths and 12 injuries. That is a pretty big range difference from my perspective.

I think it is imperative for agencies to be a source of trusted information and not add to the rumor mill and speculation that often accompany these events. Great job illustrating how an Agency can gather geo-located information using the Social Media tools.

Flash support seems to be handled in the Apps if need be, YouTube being the prime example. It would be nice for the web browsing experience, but I don't think it's a "must-have". One of the things I think this will definitely do is set the bar higher for other devices. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a similar device running the Android OS with Flash Support and a pre-paid access plan similar if not cheaper than the one Apple has.

Apple sets the benchmark, now its time for the others to either meet it or exceed it.

Yes, total package... as long as the URL or Twitter account submitted linked to your blog, YouTube, Flickr, etc. ... all those URLs were included for the judges.

Hey Bob,

We swapped out your Twitter link for your blog link in the post... the judges did have your blog link because you listed it on your Twitter profile. The list of nominees above is linked to what entity was nominated and qualified, so if your Twitter account got nominated that's what got linked, if your blog got nominated that's what got linked, etc.

Hope that clears up the method behind the madness!
