If more guns do not make us safer, why do we not have mass shootings at police stations, gun shows, the NRA national convention and other places where where guns are abundant?

We have mass shootings at malls, theaters, schools and other places where guns are forbidden because deranged, evil people know they have many unarmed victims at those places. To think otherwise is. . .well, the term that comes to mind is "delusional."

Well, leaving aside the Latino contribution to the US homicide statistics, here's how the numbers stack up for 2010, the last year for which we have all the figures:

US population = 308.75 million
Homicides by gun = 8,323 (that excludes justifiable killings by cops and civilians)
Rate = 2.69 homicides per 100,000 people

US population minus African Americans = 270.15 million
Homicides by gun committed by non African Americans = 3903 (again, excluding justifiable killings)
Rate = 1.44 homicides per 100,000 people

So the homicide rate goes down dramatically if you exclude African American perpetrators. Of course, the number of African American victims is also disproportionate to their numbers in the general population, but that's irrelevant to this discussion.

In today's politically correct climate the mere observation of the fact is bound to be derided in some quarters, but the numbers do indicate the problem of gun homicides is influenced by race.

The idea behind micro-stamping is that each shell casing will be marked with a unique number so that when police gather spent shell casings from a shooting scene they can trace back to the gun used in the shooting.

The problems with this are several:

= Revolvers do not expel spent brass; it stays in the gun.

= It's possible to catch all the spent brass as you shoot with any gun that does expel brass. There are attachments just for this purpose already made and commonly used by shooters who don't want to bend over and pick up brass.

= The shooting has been done by the time the brass is collected by police, so it's obvious this scheme doesn't work to prevent anything.

= People who steal guns (that would be almost all gang bangers and criminals) won't care what the micro-stamping might reveal, since the gun trace won't come back to them.

= The scheme only works if there is gun registration, which may be in place in NY, but is not a practical political possibility on the federal level. There is no gun registration in my state, nor will there be.

The idea is stupid, it springs from ignorance, it will accomplish nothing. Is that the kind of folks that NY voters elect to public office?

She's a washed up has been with no achievements whatsoever. She did indeed commit treason in Hanoi and she caused additional terrible suffering for the POWs held in the Hanoi Hilton. She and her ilk should all be parachuted into North Korea, a regime that practices what they preach.

Yeah. . .when I heard about Kucinich's proposal in the mix, and found I agreed with it, I thought possibly I had gotten some very bad Scotch, or maybe suffered a brain aneurysm, or had LSD sprinkled on my morning eggs..

I've settled down since I recalled the old stopped clock analogy.

With respect, I'll disagree.

The limits of presidential power have to be starkly illuminated and slapping him down, hard, over the illegal, unconstitutional and senseless Libyan action.

The Kucinich proposal shows even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Congress ought to sharply rein in this arrogant president. To do less is to abrogate the oaths they took to defend the Constitution. If they don't push the issue hard, then we must conclude they, and in particular Boehner, have no stones whatsoever.

Thanks. I assumed the answer would be something like that.

It's amazing that Western democracies are so willing to import vicious weasels and hold them to their breasts in the name of cultural relativism and non descrimination.

This is not surprising. And the disease afflicts some that are generally regarded as more conservative as well.

Consider that John McCain co-authored an act that forbade associations of citizens to comment unfavorably on the political actions of incumbents near the time of an election.

However, the Left as it's currently constituted here absolutely reeks of Stalinism and repression. It did so in Clinton's day as well.

I wonder: under Sharia law, what would be the punishment for attacking an innocent person without provocation and doing substantial bodily harm? Of course, since the victim here was an infidel, probably nothing. But what would the punishment have been if an infidel had done that to a believer?
