Cops can handcuff people for self protection or for protection of the person under 'detainment'. Because so many criminals have beat charges by a mere technicality, many cops, as a matter of course, automatically Mirandize EVERYONE they take into custody. It is once you start to question a suspect, that the Miranda warning better be in place. If a cop questions a person of interest or actual suspect before they Mirandize them, it is sheer stupidity of the cops and anything the suspect says cannot be used in court. However, if a suspect starts shooting off his/her mouth voluntarily, that can be used. A smart interrogator will have them repeat whatever they said once they have Mirandized them.

People mistakenly think everyone has to be Mirandized simply because they are temporarily in custody. Material witnesses do not have to be Mirandized. Miranda warnings are federal and apply in all states by virtue of 'case law' (SCOTUS) in Miranda v AZ. States still have the right to use their own state statues, which vary from state to state, depending on the circumstances. Just a synopsis version of Miranda.

In the case of Zimmerman, I believe he was placed in cuffs as a matter of dept. procedure. It does not mean he committed a crime. It does not mean he was arrested. He was placed in custody pending questioning.

Why is it any group other than a lily white person gets a hyphenated title? Remember when the anthropological terms for different races were caucasoid, negroid and mongoloid? Even MLK used "negro" for what is now called blacks. and "Negroes" were generally a proud people. Mexicans used to be proud of being a 'Mexican" instead of the new fangled label "Hispanic".

Well, odd that the CONTINENT of Africa was inhabited in the north by whites as well as in south Africa. Blacks were from the sub-Saharan region. There are a number of sovereign countries (54) on the continent. According to liberals and political correctness, whites should then also be considered African-Americans if their heritage lies in the northern part of the continent. Imagine the outcry if whites started using that label.

The same principle applies to Mexicans, now defined as Hispanics. Another convoluted term concocted by liberals for political purposes. Show me where whites have started hate rallies over a whites death or injury by a black? With regard to your comment on "arrest". He was arrested. They did in FACT question him. Once questioning starts, the person MUST be Mirandized. An arrest has to take place for this to happen. Placing handcuffs on Zimmerman would have been for officer safety and dept. procedure. After hearing Zimmerman's account, they found no substantive reason to hold him further. No bail would have been required. MANY people (including blacks) are let out without a bond. It's called OR'd..."own recognizance". Rush, you know nothing of police procedure.

Mike: Many of the black on black crimes are gang related. Gangs kill each other for more turf control and protecting the turf they have. However, black on white crime has dramatically increased in the past 20 years. Look up "BOW"...acronym for black on white crime. Also look up "Black Foot Soldiers". The BFS advocates killing "whitey" and have a site dedicated to a LOT of hateful language.

FBI crime stats are also behind and a LOT of black on white crime never makes it to the FBI. It is up to the individual cities to report their crime to the FBI...many cities don't bother.
