By the way, aren't we having any article on Dave and Gideon's "success" today?

I've watched the video and read the relevant Hansard extract to which it refers.

Reckless said at the start that he is conveying the views of Medway Council. He also made other statements and these *could* be construed in support of the development. I don't think it is conclusive either way and in any event, so what? What you want to brand as cynical inconsistency could equally be taken as sensitivity to public opinion. If you are passionately about the development, why would Reckless's words from almost 2 years be relevant to the way you will cast your vote?

If you are going to lose, you might as well lose with some dignity.

If negative campaigning is to work as a tactic it has to tap into other evidence about the target. Reckless's decision to leave the Tories hasn't impacted on his trustworthiness (as is obvious from his 15 point lead) and the fact that he has chosen to fight a by-election proves his position is totally principled.

This form of negative campaigning, for all its slickness, just reinforces the perception that the Tories are the Nasty Party. I think it will go down badly. Expect Andrew Neil to quiz Grant Shapps/Michael Green about it in the By-election Special.

A "feral beast" - when Cameron can count on the Telegraph, Mail and Times to back him and pump out anti-UKIP propaganda? More like a purring Cameroon kitten.

If UKIP wins the by-election, all bets are off as to what it might achieve. If you think R&S is just going to fall into your lap in May, if lost in November, you are, as you often prove yourself, delusional. All 3 Medway seats plus the 2 Thanet seats could all go.

Great video, as I'm in it.

When I briefly read this piece this morning, I thought it might be a Dan Hodges style wind-up for clickbait. Looking at it more closely, I thought, my goodness, this person actually believes it. It doesn't bother me, but it should bother thinking Conservatives that this risible stuff is being served up as serious analysis. I should say more but others have put it at least as well as I can.

I see Ms Maltby is another 20-something PPEer turned policy wonk. I thoroughly recommend that this Saturday she gets on to a sceptical doorstep in, say, Strood and tries to push her statistics there. It will be a hard lesson but a useful one.

If all she says is true then why has her party's fortunes waned as UKIP's have been waxing? If UKIP can beat the Tories in a place like Rochester & Strood 6 months out of a general election and far from its supposed seaside heartland, where else can it win? Don't forget, a big surge to UKIP in Kent or Essex which translates into seats and your national election chances are instantly stuffed.

The place could do with Farage and one of his "Who are you?" speeches to go viral on YouTube.

Totally irrelevant to his point. He beat your party by a country mile, get over it.

UKIP now 15 points ahead at Rochester & Strood.

Stop making a fool of yourself. UKIP has always said what it wants: a points system for immigration. Out of the EU, we will make able to make our own immigration policy.

All your party can do when people like Fallon and Boles are candid about the implication of EU membership is to pressurise them to "clarify" their remarks. You're obviously scared of the truth.

As to a referendum, you could put it in your 2015 manifesto for June of next year, so why not? Too frit?
