Because then it technically wouldn't be matrimony or a marriage. The union of marriage is religious or spiritual in its roots and the Judeo-Christian principles, which this nation is founded upon, explicitly state that marriage is the bond between a man and a woman. This would mean that the person who decrees the definition of marriage is the Pope and he takes his definition from The Bible. There are alternative civil unions that are the legal equivalent to marriage, so why don't they use those? Because they want to be treated special and given privileges. It's like when they wanted driver's licenses to have 3 genders: male, female, and homosexual. Really? last i checked, homosexuality is not a gender but a sexual orientation. Regardless, not even the government can uproot a 4,000 year old tree of values.

Yea am 19 as well and it was really unnerving to see people from my age group praising President Obama and defending him with tooth and nail, yet they gladly insulted President Bush, McCain and Sarah Palin. Now that the country is heading in this direction, I ask them if this is what they wanted, the destruction of everything that's makes America great and their response is a sarcastic "How do you know McCain would've done better?"
