For almsgiving, when the kids were all little, we spent the money we would have spent on alcohol or whatever we were giving up for Lent and bought a bunch of nonperishables. We had the kids decorate a big box with purple paper and each morning one of them ceremoniously carried one of the items from the pantry to the box. At Easter we donated it to a food pantry. I love my daughter's Bitty Baby and while she doesn't actually play with dolls anymore, that is a toy I would keep for grandchildren. And a Leatherman knife is top of my husband's Christmas list!

Great story!! I love that you hosted a birthday party while in labor!! I hear you on that annoying lip at the end. Happens to me every time. Ugh! But 2 pushes is the way to go! :-)
