Things would have been a lot worse for Labour had Scotland voted "yes" as they would not be able to form a British government without Scotland. Even if English devolution succeeds, an all-Britain Labour government is now possible thanks partly to the efforts of pro-union Tories. So all those who campaigned for a "No" vote you only have yourselves to thank if Labour get in again.

The bad news for the EU/NATO governments is that US natural gas exports are not going to materialise and there is little alternative to Russian energy dependence. I don't think this is such a bad thing. Russia has shown itself to be a force for conservatism while America and the EU are a forces for liberalism and globalism.

Right so America's presidential election is genuinely competitive just because there's a two horse race between a candidate selected by Sheldon Adelson and one selected by George Soros? The US or UK is no more democratic than Russia. In all cases candidates who might have genuinely popular policies but are not backed by mega rich billionaires get nowhere. If anything Putin has made Russia less Undemocratic than it used to be, to the extent that he has reigned in the power of the oligarchs.

"Today, the Western Allies have struggled when major foreign policy challenges have emerged – not least how to deal with Vladimir Putin’s Russia. From Libya to Syria to Ukraine, Putin has shown himself to be as opposed to democracy and liberty as he is the West"

Ah yes the Syrian and Libyan rebellions in favour of liberty and democracy.

The British government should start by not trying to overthrow secular Arab dictatorships like that of Syria. Since this is unlikely to happen, Christians should pray that Russia and Iran continue to foil the UK/US/Israeli destabilisation project.

Doesn't Hague have a war to escalate somewhere? I'm surprised he has time for by-elections.

It doesn't really matter what type of system you have in place to 'deal' with immigrants once they are here 'Assimilationist' France has just as many problems integrating its immigrant communities as Britain does. The truth is thats some nationalities are infinitely harder to integrate or assimilate than others. The only way these problems could be avoided would be to favour immigration from those cultures that are more similar to Britain's - but such a policy is sensible and thus would never be adopted.

"Just because you will end up, or have ended up as a graduate with a worthless piece of paper with the value of yesterdays newsprint, it doesn't make you intelligent, and it shows. " Well said Radsatser. That made me chuckle.

Such an ignorant article. Horrible to think that the men who fought and died in Churchill's war perished so that one day the German massacre of Jews would be used by politicans to denounce British people who objected to the immigration invasion of their homeland. If British soldiers in Normandy could have looked forward to see the totalitarian PC Britain of today they wouldn't have advanced 40 yards that's for sure.
