Thanks, mama. I always appreciate hearing from you here. And, yes... I'm still game for a trip to the river. Let's talk soon. Deep peace.

After posting this here, I had to make the new blog invite only. As hard to imagine as it is, someone had the audacity to leave a disparaging comment on our boy's birth story. I'm still a little shocked that anyone could desecrate our memorial to our son. I'll open it up again eventually but for now, if you would like to follow, contact me through the email on my Blogger profile.

Thanks so much for your support.
Deep peace.

Thanks for your comment, Grace. I think keeping an open dialogue with our kids is absolutely imperative. Because they are exposed to so many images and ideas that give men the primary role in our society and hold only the male as divine I made the choice early on to include certain elements of the goddess tradition in our spirituality. I think it's essential for our children to hear archetypal stories of strong women rising to the occasion, women full of courage overcoming darkness, and divine mothers giving birth to creation. Just by living in our culture, our kids are going to hear the patriarchy's version of these things... and, imo, anthropomorphizing divinity into an exclusively male form limits our potential as human beings. To balance that, I've chosen to introduce my little one to to a greater range of cosmogonic and archetypal stories -- stories that take root within us, remind us of our deeper heritage as human beings, and affect the way we understand ourselves and the world in which we live.

Beautifully stated thoughts, Barbara. You know, it's interesting that you said, "I think I may already image the "holy spirit" as a my spiritual mother, a presence within me that connects me to everything and grounds me." Christianity adapted the Holy Trinity from the already existing religions of the time (Google "Triple Goddess.") And within Christianity itself, the Holy Ghost's original form was the Goddess Mother Sophia -- an ever-present, all-pervading, creative, feminine wisdom... the divine energy from which all things arise.

Check this out:

"For Sophia, which is the worker of all things, taught me: for in her is an understanding spirit, holy, one only. . . For she is the breath of the power of God, and a pure influence flowing from the glory of the Almighty . . . And being but one, she can do all things: and remaining in herself, she maketh all things new: and in all ages entering into holy souls, she maketh them friends of God and prophets. For God loveth none but him that dwelleth with Sophia." Wisdom of Solomon 1:5,7

Maybe we can redefine the Holy Trinity sooner than you think! Love & light to you, mama. <3

Thank you! It's not always easy to put words to these things or to voice them. I'm so glad this helped!

Blogging is a lot like hurling words into the darkness and waiting for a reply... Sooo hearing from you is a real delight. Many blessings to you!!

Oh, come on, mama! Fill up that comment box!! We always have so much fun with our crazy ideas!! What do you think? Can we bring about a major shift in consciousness by honoring the feminine divine?? Arundhati Roy puts it like this:

"Another world is not only possible, she is on her way! On a quiet day, if you listen carefully, you can hear her breathing." I just LOVE that!!!
