you have to download libusb, something like that and it wont stop the mouse and keyboard working.

Well i tried everything i possible could and always got "No Service"
However iRecovery worked for me and im very happy now! :)

If you want to fix the NO service issue you have to use iRecovery to get service no matter what network you are with

I can gurantee you that im using an official carrier and i get a no service issue

I think you will find that the baseband does matter because you will have a "No Service" issue

So the baseband does matter.
It worked for me, anyone who wants to give it a go

I am a 3GS user who was forced to update through a restore

After a lot of work i now have a 3GS restored to 3.1.2 Firmware

BUT 5.12.01 baseband WITH SERVICE
Anybody who wants to challenge that give me a comment and i'll show you the picture ;-)
