Here...Here....I shop at Aldis. I love it. The German company is run by 2 brothers who are some of the wealthiest people in the world. But the point I made is confirmed by your comments. Vegetables are more expensive but lets not stray from reality. Policy should be to eliminate products eligible for purchase with too high of sugar, fat and salt. Don't tax them but make them ineligible like alcohol. Peanut butter is good food...Eggs, milk, juice, apples, carrots, grapefruit, oranges, tomatoes, lettuce...All under $2....Sorry, not buying it from the Social Services....appreciate what you do but the program is long over due for some changes towards healthy food choices....

The way to get people back downtown is to tear half of it down. What is the old saying...too much of anything is probably not good. Once upon a time Iowa had a bunch of farmers and a handful of religions. But that wasn't enough. Now we have a handful of corporate farmers convincing us the hog lots, egg plants, packing plants,waters and soils are all safe and good for Iowans. Now we also have a hundred different religions; most of them ravaged by scandals, incompetence and diminished tithing. If Iowa history is correct in repeating itself we will have 7 feet tall naturally organic lesbians eating $7,000 a dozen eggs at church...their own.

lets see.... The Hawkeye Football team....forget it. All the donations in the world wont help this program. The Hawkeye Basketball team... pleeze. There is no legacy and no future...There is pity. But the endowment... this helps pay for stadium renovations, so the hawks can finish 6-5 every year. For carver to be renovated so it sits half full 75% of the time But what about the students? Where is the tuition reimbursement? where are the jobs? This stuff is a pipe dream that ends up with guys like Jerry Jones calling the shots and students in debt up to their eyes with poor job prospects when they finish....and who doesn't finish anymore? Hey, but that got a flat screen ,right? But no one one wants to talk about this and this is not the foundations responsibility, not their department, the sports program is different, etc...Trim the fat starting with the fat heads at the foundation.. Your paychecks are nice. Your results are poor.

The truth is this is a two edged sword. First, nobody wants a bunch of degenerates from Chicago coming here to suck up liberal state sponsored benefits. All will agree CR has taken a brutal beating post flood....an influx of poor, unemployed crack dealers is a bad beat. Secondly, lets not deny the train as viable. How many trains run through CR without a single passenger. As far as I can see the only ones gaining any value are the same guys that make the city smell like vomit...period. The tracks are already there, the jobs are there, the federal grant is there. We need jobs, people staying in Iowa and growth. If CR was more like IC and IC more like CR we would probably all be better off. Is there something that will connect these dots more than a high speed rail....I suspect not.

Why don't we bring the deer to us instead of chase them. Lets make little grain trails that lead all the way downtown. We build a little ramp so the deer don't have to wait for the trains. Then we build a fence around downtown CR and start dumping grain in there all winter long...Then we give all the hunters a knife instead of a gun. Then we lock em' all in the fenced in area and put it on TV. This gives us actual activity in downtown CR, something to put on TV, gets rid of the deer problem and we finally get these idiots that call themselves sportsman to actual resemble an athlete instead of some gimp hiding in a tree with a gun.

You are a scholar and a gentleman. Let me sharpen the crayon and connect the dots for you...complacency is a dangerous place to be. Does anyone really fail college anymore? Nope....everyone is a winner nowadays....until they leave school and reality sinks in. Why dont we just make athletes employees and pay them. When they don't go to the NFL then they could begin their education. And the laundry list of troubled Hawks should confirm for you most of these "Scholars" aren't going to make it if they can't finish a solid education. Sports studies and Afro studies don't count. How much money went into the music, art building, hancher, etc..???? Tens of .Millions. Was there not one regent that said, "Hmmm...let's not spend millions on huge projects on a river prone to flood?" Not a peep. How much money went into deciding to move Hancher 100 yards up the parking lot...Real rocket science here? How about Carver Hawkeye Arena...I have been to wrestling, volleyball and men's basketball in 2010 and none of them filled the place half full.Forget Lickleiter.... Remember ol' Mary Sue Coleman the first female president....?What a great and loyal Hawk she turned out to be.....Ask Michigan. .My point being is that millions get dumped down the river in Iowa City all the time with the least accountability. Kirk is great coach and a cool guy....but he is a better salesman.

What a great investment that was, not...Close the Athletic department, forget the boosters...a bunch of rich guys jockeying for the next piece of vanity and great seats.....spare me. Think I am wrong..? Name one student at the u of i who could spot Roy Carver or Paul Brechler at the Airliner....zippo. Do we really need another family giving a million bucks to the U of I football team? The money could be much better spent on taking care of those students and families straddled with debt long after the U of I is in the rear view mirror.
