you're paying historically low taxes, and your draft card anaolgy is weak. you had no choice to be born a male and thus draftable, whereas a criminal had a choice in selling drugs or burglarizing a home or whatever they did.

You're missing the point entirely. There is a long standing concept in American law that states that there is no privacy in public places, and you should be under no illusion of privacy. Police could very legally follow you around all day watching what you do in public, however if they wanted to see into your home further than they could see through an open window, they'd need the courts decision. This applies to camera as well; it's perfectly fine to establish cameras in public places for law enforcement since there is no privacy or concept of privacy in those situations. Interesting show of bias labeling this a speed trap when it doesn't meet ANY of the common requirements of what people would consider a speed trap.
The letter makes perfect sense, under the assumption that the writer is correct and the underage drinking in Iowa City bars was "minimal". Anyone who has been there, or even simply read the arrest blotter for Iowa City, know this is not the case. The vast majority of problems in the pedmall area (fighting, public drunkenness, injuries from falls...) comes from the under-aged crowd.
Personally I think the bars should be punished more than the kids trying to drink there, but that's a different conversation.
When the owner of a vehicle would be committing a crime by driving it, or say the owner has a warrant, that's reason enough to get stopped. If your buddy has a murder warrant and you're driving his car, prepare to have several unpleasant stops.... Gotta choose the company you run with.
like our taxpayer money being used to care for and eventually destroy animals that are taken in by irresponsible owners and either abused or simply lost when they run away with no one ever claiming them?
