I really enjoyed the book, and I'm glad I finally made the time to read it.

Thanks for the tip about BlogHer. I'll look into it!

This was actually why I relished my former role as a features writer. I understood the subtleties of a relationship with a car, and found ways to articulate them, in a way that wasn't being done.

I don't really think a female perspective is different; stereotypically, we might prefer different cars, but all the women I've met in the industry have tastes as varied as the men. However, I think the average female reader is more open to automotive writing from a female writer.

My example of the gay community was a touchy one, and I'm glad it wasn't misinterpreted. Why does a gay automotive site such as Gaywheels need to exist? In addition to the car reviews, there's content that the community cares about, such as information about gay-friendly manufacturers. I think Joe LaMuraglia did a fantastic job finding and defining his niche. Do women need their own site? Probably not. However, as a writer and as a car buyer, I'm a lot more likely to consider a car like the Fusion Hybrid, knowing its most unique feature was designed by a female engineer.

"...and then drive home in twenty-year-old GTIs with ironic stickers covering the tailgate."

Now turn the knife counterclockwise.

Women whose imagination is sparked by classic cars tend to romanticize the experience, I think.

The GTI's a '91. It's almost there!

That's a fair point, and I did consider it; that's why I was so amused the car in question showed up on eBay just as I was finishing up this story.

I think I might have to make a return trip to the Volo Auto Museum in Illinois--they've got tons of gems in the collection.

The Metra was one of the (many) factors in our decision to move downtown, and it makes my life much easier. Thanks for reading!
