I absolutely loved Dead Snow, however, I'm also a huge fan of zombie movies. I also saw it on Halloween, at midnight, at a packed showing at the Alamo Drafthouse where a best zombie costume contest was being held. It was quite a night. This is a great movie, for fans of zombie movies, but, I completely agree with you about there being nothing there for everyone else.

Tell me honestly, though, when one of the skiers went to great lengths to amputated his own arm to avoid a zombie bite infection, and when he was finally done, a zombie pops out of the snow and bites him on the leg, you didn't laugh, at least a little? Or was it just too much blood by then?

If you are including The Squid and the Whale, which Anderson only produced, then he has seven films total, four of which you might be able to argue are 'well known,' and, at this point, every film of 2009 is being considered for an Academy award. There is a lot of loose talk about Oscars right now because the film just opened and they want to hype it, and tabloid reporters live to talk to Clooney, but all that is really meaningless.

Bob, I too am tired of Wes Anderson's lack of directorial and writing ability being called a quirky style and of Anderson trying to work out his 'daddy issues' on the screen and selling it as a movie over and over again.

I agree. I've read a lot of negative reviews and they are all unwarranted. I really liked this movie and thought it had a really good mix of humor and drama keeping a dark story light and keeping the characters real.

I agree with your assessment of the comedy/drama mix. It's very easy to pour on the drama for a quick, cheap reaction, but it takes talent to have realistic drama and to mix in comedy that is, likewise, not over the top, but believable. If you accomplish that, the audience will have a real connection to the film. I know I did.
