"Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) went on MSNBC's "dog whistle" expert Martin Bashir's show and unleashed an assault of freshman Rep. Allen West (*D*-FL) that focused exclusively on the unrelated subject of Congressman West's African American heritage. "
That should read (R-FL)!

This chasing down 30+ year old slips of paper and individual grains of moon dust is just frigging embarrassing for everyone concerned especially when you consider:
- There are data tapes in NASAs possession that they can't read any more since nobody makes the computer equipment, and NASA sold theirs off a long time ago.
- The original SSTV tapes of the Apollo 11 landing were discarded by NASA.
- NASA *literally* left 4 complete Saturn-V stacks to sit outside and rot instead of finding roles for them (ASTP got one, Skylab got another, the other two were eventually converted to museum pieces by dint of donations).
Get over yourselves, NASA. Lovell, Swiegart and Haise are heroes. If Lovell wants to capitalize on that now 40 years after the fact it's his business, NOT YOURS.

All we can hope is that a congress that believes in all ten amendments of the Bill of Rights is seated in 2012.

Imagine slogging hundreds or thousands of light years (and lets say you can do it really insanely quickly, like at 1.5% of C) to some far off solar system and waking up to find the "second Earth" you were aiming at is 900' Centigrade at the surface and has a hypercane with mach 10+ winds and sulfuric acid for rain. Yet right now, that's a real possibility with all of these "near earths" we "see" (that is, that we detect and then use math and guesstimation to assume the composition of). However, because they're in the "habitability /zone/" we call them near-earths or earth-twins.
Well...regardless, it's largely pointless. In terms of distance, right now humanity is in the living room. We have walked over to the front door occasionally; sometimes we take pictures with a smudgy telephoto lens out the peephole in the door (from where we're sitting) to try and get an idea of what's out there. The pinprick of light that comes through shows us things that are hundreds of miles away down the highway, and the fastest travel speed we can manage (using this analogy) is at about 1" per month.

Not that this changes anything; kim Jong Un is probably just as insane.
