So far I haven’t gotten cynical, but reinforced why my dad taught me to be an optimistic skeptic. I guess that was an early version of trust but verify.

Give a liberal an inch and they’ll want a yard, give them a yard and they’ll expect you to build them a swimming pool in it.

While Al Bore thinks he’s breaking new scientific ground with his new religion of AGW, he’s just repeating academic censorship. He’s not Kepler, he’s just an angry 15th Century professor mixed with Luther.

Then you should know that in 1992, Pope Paul discovered that while the church was not progressive in its 1633 ruling against Galileo, it was not overly harsh and it wasn’t really about science and Copernicus – it was about politics (sound familiar?). Granted, there were still lower church officials upset by Galileo trying to pit the church against science, but Pope Urban only asked that Copernicanism by treated as a hypothesis until it could be better proven, and set Galileo up in some pretty nice digs outside Florence if he would stop being such an obnoxious and arrogant bore.

The real enemies of scientific thinking were the academics who used (and tricked) the church to persecute Galileo and Kepler. It wasn’t church dogma being upset by Copernicanism, but Aristotelian professors who couldn’t abide someone making their knowledge of Ptolemy irrelevant. Copernicus himself didn’t delay publication of his theories because of the church, but because he feared mockery by the academics.

And remember that President Monroe suffered an arterial injury in the battle yet went from Lieutenant to President.

The wife just reminded me that this movie came out 18 months after President Ford was accused (rightfully) of smuggling Coors from Vail back to the Whitehouse. Art imitates life.

We need a new “Bozo and the Beauty” movie with Obama as Governor Bozo, Eric Holder as Sheriff Bigo, Sarah Palin as Smokey Beauty, and Tom Selleck as Snowman.
