Daily Camera.com: : Buffs offer fans flickers of hope in spirited spring contest - Boulder Daily Camera

"This is actually my first game at Folsom Field even though I'm a senior, which is sad," Parnes said. Yes, it is sad. I realize that not everyone is a sports fan, but only 6530 in attendance? Well I am sure the team was hoping for more of a turn out than that. I wasn't there either. I was one of the 64,000 plus at Sanford Stadium watching the University of Georgia spring game. Now, before all of you start your comments about not having anything to do in Georgia other than football while in Colorado you have all those 'outdoor' activities. The Masters was going on nearby, the Braves were playing, Spring Break was happening and tons of other outdoor activities going on in the burbs and Atlanta. Go Buffs. Former bb and football season ticket holder.

Daily Camera.com: : Allan Weinberger: Sidewalks don\'t belong to bicyclists - Boulder Daily Camera

Excuse me Mr. Chicagoan bike rider. What part of Chicago are you from? I was born and raised in Chicago, rode a bike in Chicago as a resident and as a visitor. My wife and I visit the city at least once a year and now that her parents have passed on we usually stay somewhere near Michigan Avenue. . My sister-in-law has a town house on the Near North side. I am always amazed at how frequently I see what I consider to be RUDE cyclists (yes Coloradans, even ruder than our spandex guys). They come out of anywhere, going against the traffic, wrong side of the road, running lights, stop signs, cutting off pedestrians and cars. And most of them don't wear helmets, that's their choice that doesn't affect me. I have read recently that Chicago has been recognized by some magazines or somebody has a friendly bike city. I don't see that. Don't get me wrong. Chicago is my home town and I still love visiting. Great museums, zoos, much better than Denver. Great places to eat; great theatre, etc. etc. But, what I don't like about Chicago are the yet to win World Series Cubs, the Bears that blew it again, the White Sox, and yes the politics, and bike riders. The last time I brought my road bike to Chicago and rode along Lake Shore Drive, I almost got mugged down near 35th Street. Yes should have known better to ride down there. I will take Boulder and Colorado any time over Chicago for cycling.

I just visited "Rate My Professors". From I could tell from reading the comments were that many students liked Adler and rated her high. What brought her overall rating down was the 'easiness' of the course category. Seems like she challenges students. NOW, go look up Hillary Potter. Pardon the play on words, but Potter is calling the pot Black? Overall rating of 2.4?

Daily Camera.com: : CU-Boulder: Patti Adler\'s prostitution skit raised concerns about filming without consent - Boulder

AAUP Colorado Conference Condemns University On December 18, 2013, the AAUP Colorado Conference issued the statement below. Statement Regarding University of Colorado and Professor Patti Adler The AAUP Colorado Conference condemns the University of Colorado’s treatment of sociology professor Patti Adler as a clear violation of academic freedom and an unwarranted infringement on Professor Adler’s professional obligation to choose effective instructional methods to communicate disciplinary knowledge in her classroom. The reported concerns of CU administration, first, that Professor Adler may have violated federal institutional research protocol and, second, that Adler’s classroom role playing presentation potentially violates federal sexual harassment policy, if correctly reported, have no bases in principle or in fact and appear to inaccurately characterize the reach of either of these important social protections. Institutional Review Boards are clearly limited to supervising research, not teaching. Sexual harassment protection does not justify restriction of academic freedom except where an intent to harass is manifestly evident or a hostile environment is shown to exist,* the circumstances of which have not been established in this case and thus should not be presumed absent formal grievance and investigation. The fact that Professor Adler has taught her class using this role playing exercise for 20 years without complaint is certainly strong circumstantial evidence against such allegation. The AAUP Colorado Conference hereby urges CU administration to uphold academic freedom and hereinafter respect Dr. Adler’s pedagogical judgment in classroom in the absence of procedurally credible evidence of any misconduct.
My long list of worthless college courses: All the theology classes I had to take as a Catholic; my 15 hours of Philosophy that were required; two years of Latin; two years of German (why, we are an English speaking country?), General Psychology, Shakespeare (boy there was a a deviant guy); And Poetry? All my history classes; all we talked about were wars, ethnic cleansing, religious wars, incest, slavery, to mention a few topics. Of course none of these fall into 'deviant' behavior. Music Theory, boy was that a waste of time, what did I do with that class? ROTC, required. No comment. So what is left? Calculus, that's pretty safe. No titillating entertainment there. Oh my biology classes where we dissected animals. Boy did that excite me! Chemistry, learned how to make explosives. Physics, another very exciting, titillating class. Yes, my college career was filled with worthless college courses. That's why I had to go to med school to get away from all that erotic influence!

Daily Camera.com: : CU-Boulder\'s freshmen fans gets feel for Folsom Field - Boulder Daily Camera

I have to agree with you about the attendance. Surely after the win over CSU I felt that there would be at least a 45,000 in attendance. Late start game? Unknown opponent? Those should not be factors. Is it true there are just too many things to do in Colorado rather than sit in a stadium? I didn't go to CU; I'm a transplant who loves sports and I'm a season ticket holder. Regarding the students (and others) arriving late? Well for the students it some the 'culture', the tradition. When my daughter went to CU I would always yell at her fro getting to the game late. Her reply was 'that is the tradition'. Well it is a stupid tradition, indicating to the rest of the football world that CU students really don't appreciate or understand the game. I went to an Ole Miss game last year. The stadium was filled 30 minutes before kickoff, as it is around many other SEC schools. So, don't know if that culture can be changed. However, though the turnout at the game Saturday was low, it was loud.

Lyell did attend Fairview and then CU. I always assumed he graduated. Buy who know. His wife attended CU, did graduate. Her parents live in Niwot and are are HUGE Buff fans, season ticket holders for decades. I am sure they are not liking their son -in- law! Yeah, I just don't get it with him, why he has taken the anti CU stance so much rather than just reporting CSU stuff. Yeah, I know him, though not friends. Lived and worked in FOCO for quite awhile, they do have, IMO , an inferiority complex when it comes to CU.

Oh yes, I know that. He went to Fairview. I can understand someone graduating from a particular college and taking a job in another city and supporting the local team. The CEO of Poudre Health Systems is a BYU grad, supports CSU big time with donations, volunteer, etc. However, walk into his office and you are blown away by the BYU memorabilia. He cheers for CSU except one time, when they play BYU. So that is what I don't understand about Lyell; something must have gone bad while he was in Boulder. BTW, his wife is a CU grad and last time I checked at a bb game, stat with CU supporters.

Kelly Lyell is the king of homers. Having known and followed (sort of, if you can get through the Coloradoan web site fire wll) him and his columns, I wondered why a journalist of any worth would stay so long at a less than average newspaper in a small market. Answer? He can't write about anything other than his poor attempts to report CSU sports news fron a homer, biased viewpoint.

I cycled that stretch of Valmont from 75th to 55th once, and that was it! Trucks passing very close to me on curves and NOT slowing down. Cars just as bad.
Daily Camera.com: : Shortchanging teachers -- and students -- at community colleges - Boulder Daily Camera

To 123commonsense Your data sources are not appropriate to Colorado. As i assume most have read/heard/seen, our wonderful state is ranked somewhere between 48-50 on funding of higher education. Salaries for community college full time and part time (adjunct) faculty are nowhere near the levels quoted in the articles you posted. Those are national averages, supported in many states by strong unions. "Here is part of a job announcement for a part time faculty member at the Boulder campus of FRCC. State Board policy dictates that part-time instructors cannot exceed teaching 12 credit hours per semester. Exceptions to this workload policy must be approved by the campus vice-president. PRIMARY DUTIES Teach all assigned classes. Distribute a course syllabus to each student in every class. Inform students of all course requirements, course evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, make-up examination policy, and related course procedures. Meet the class at the assigned time in the assigned room. Conduct regular evaluation of student’s progress. Maintain accurate performance and attendance records and submit required reports on or before the deadlines. Assist students with study problems and with evaluating their potential for successful achievement in the course or discipline. Communicate with the department chair regularly. Maintain office hours. Maintain professional, ethical, and legal responsibilities, i.e., FERPA, copyrights, etc. Required Skills REQUIRED Master’s in English or related field with at least 18 graduate hours in English PREFERRED Composition/Rhetoric degree Experience and/or coursework in teaching developmental-level reading and writing Required Experience REQUIRED Higher-education teaching experience is required. PREFERRED Additional experience teaching high school, adult education, or developmental education is desirable." Notice that there are many requirements listed, but no mention of benefits or salary, only that you can't teach more than 12 hours/semester. Why? Well, then you would be teaching a full time load, and there are some concerns that eventually a federal law will require benefits for anyone working similar hours as a full time faculty. (There is more to it than that, but you can get the idea.) What the author of this opinion should have focused on was the 'equal pay for equal work'. I can understand, and somewhat relate to the other issues, but people choose their own careers and/or college majors. The real travesty here is that the colleges do hire, in most situations, very qualified faculty, pay them less than half of what a full time faculty member earns ( and remember that full time faculty at the community colleges start out somewhere less than $40k/year. And they need graduate degrees and lots of experience. So the community college system, or the legislature or someone does not provide enough income to hire enough full time faculty. (Oh, there has been a surplus of funds recently, but they are used for other purposes. But the actual, annual budget allocations to the colleges are limited. So, if you have students to teach, you find cheaper ways to teach them: adjuncts. Then you hope the ones you hire are good, because often you don't have resources to monitor, develop and evaluate them. There are too many! Or if you do evaluate them, then the evaluations are done by department chairs (often full time faculty given released time to perform those duties. ) You end up taking good faculty out of the classrooms to monitor part time hires! Here is the latest reference I can find relating to full time faculty and administrator salaries. http://www.cccs.edu/Docs/SBCCOE/Agenda/2011/05May...
