Kids at a young age need more meaningful time with their parents, exploring, talking, being loved on, not full days spent being institutionalized.

Bullying did go away after Jr. High. Sure there are mean people in the world, but for the most part it is not the same as being shut in with the problem day after day as it is in your school years. Most people just grow up or realize that they are worth more and don't need to play along with the bullying. Saying that one (a child) should just tolerate it because it is good practice for life is silly; unless you mean that they should just get used to always being a victim. There is absolutely no shame in removing yourself from the bullying culture even if it means changing schools or neighborhoods. There really is no need to expect them to just 'play along' if it gets that severe.

I had a close friend take her own life and that of one of her children. Guess what? No one ever saw it coming. It was so inconsistent with who she was, which only made it that much harder of a loss. I no longer hear statements like this and think that someone is making excuses for their actions. It is incredibly difficult to reconcile the person you knew with the enormity of their actions; I am sure that everyone is still in shock.

I grew up driving in Central Oregon and have always done those things as well, specifically because I am not too arrogant to think that it could not happen to me. You can do 'everything right' and still have a poor outcome.
