It's a shame that violent criminals like this one can so easily get guns. Could it be because you don't need a background check, paperwork, or even an ID to buy a gun from a private seller in Oregon?
Airsoft guns look so much like the real thing that you can hardly tell the difference when they are lying side-by-side with the real thing. There have been many cases this year around the nation where they have been used to threaten people, used for armed robberies, or mistaken by law enforcement. A boy in Texas was killed because of this. There is no good reason for them to look like the real thing. These kids are lucky they weren't shot.
Villain, of course! While sex offenders are despicable, vigilante justice of this sort should always be condemned. I don't feel comfortable with some yahoo appointing himself as executioner.
I understand the school's difficulty, but there are still actions the school can take. For instance, they should notify all parents about this threat. Did school officials talk to the parents of the suspected tweeter? Does the school have a security guard, and did they beef up security in any way? Could they do a school-wide search of lockers for weapons? All of these options have been taken by other schools under similar circumstances.
We make it so easy in America for violent people like this one to commit shootings. This shooter was reported as dangerous by his father, but there was no mechanism to remove the guns or conceal carry permit from him. Now five innocent lives are lost.
Once again, a previously law-abiding gun owner runs amok and kills himself and others. This is a poster-boy for the NRA's philosophy that everyone should be armed. It's a sad commentary on our gun-crazy society that this man, known and reported by his parents for being potentially dangerous, was still able to retain his permit and his guns without at least being mentally evaluated.
