Looking individually at this "Moose" character makes me laugh in itself. He is completely and utterly ignorant to the World and what is evolving around him that he has to stoop so low as to make an all White basketball league. What is wrong with him? I think that simply he is a racist man. He's clearly trying to divide Whites and Blacks and even stoop so low as to putting down Black players by saying that they don't play the game of basketball in the traditional way it is "meant" to be played. He even goes so far as to saying that these Black players are carrying around guns and fighting fans. He is stereotyping Black people and I think giving his true perception of them. I think "Moose" actually believes the statements that he's making which completely and utterly makes me sick.
I think that if we allow this type of behavior to go on and do in fact go on and make an all White basketball league we are making it okay for people to express their racism freely yet again. I mean sure, we all have the freedom of speech, but when do we put a stop to it and when do people take it too far? This is blatant discrimination and by going through with it we are just creating more and more discrimination. For example, let's say this all White league does become formed and people do begin going to games and supporting the event. What is this going to do for the world? Only make more and more ignorant White people join the bandwagon and allow them to think it's okay for White people to go around discriminating against other races (which certainly shouldn't be seen as morally correct). Once this happens Black people and everyone else supporting equality is going to rebel. There will be protests, petitions, etc. in order to put a stop to this league. It will only cause more and more problems and more and more conflict between people (especially between Blacks and Whites). Isn't it about time that we stop all of this fighting and get along? Ultimately, there shouldn't be a division at all and White and Black players should be able to play together freely as they do now. I think this whole thing is bullshit honestly.
It's crazy to think that we even still have people like this in our world, especially when we have an African American President running the nation...it's time to get over these racist attitudes and radical ideas. People shock me more and more every day.

The media influences all of us whether we like it or not...there's really no escaping it. We see a lot in society and the media lots of movies, music, pop culture, and television. These things at one point or another have all talked about gays and lesbians. And typically when talking about this topic there are inferences portrayed and the image that female on female is better than male on male. Usually we see the hilarious, teen comedy with some douche bag guy (like Stifler from American Pie) who is constantly talking about sex and "girl on girl" action and how amazing it is. This in itself influences us over time because we see it's occurrence over and over.
I also think that because we are seeing this in movies and television so often females who are lesbians or even girls who are just sexually curious are more likely to express it in public areas than males because of the fact that it's typically seen as "acceptable". Because there are more females than males who typically show their PDA this also contributes to the popular thought that lesbians are more accepted than men.
I think it's stupid and truly ignorant if we can't recognize that this isn't true in America. I can even admit that I fall into the category of people who can relate and think this way. I know that if I saw 2 women kissing I wouldn't have as big of a reaction as I would if I saw 2 men kissing. I don't necessarily think this is the right mentality or the right way to think but it's reality and people need to realize and accept the fact that this is going on instead of living in denial.

What's so unfortunate about this taking place in most American movies is that millions of people are watching them and being guided by them whether they like it or not. No one can deny that we are deeply influenced by things around us, specifically the media and forms of entertainment. If people keep seeing movies with the general idea that the minority always needs to be "dug out of the hole' by White people then people will really start to believe and think that this is true in today's society. This is certainly not the case whatsoever.
We need to keep in mind the difference between reality and perception and make sure that the two don't begin to blend together over time or everytime a new movie is made.

I am one of the many people who saw the movie Avatar. I thought and still do think that is one of the best movies of the entire year and was amazing. It was action packed, heartfelt, emotional, and awesome to watch up on the big screen!
Looking at the movie and looking at Brooks article, I realize that he makes a lot of sense. I think that in American movies we do typically see a group, usually the minority, who falls to some sort of epic problem that needs to be solved. In the end this crisis always seems to be solved by a group of strong, White men who come to save the day in the niche of time. What's funny however, and rather ironic, is that White people are usually the cause of the epic minority problem...at least this is the case in Avatar.

Adding to that, it doesn't make sense to me that European sports fans are so "diehard" in supporting their teams yet they completely harass and discriminate against some of their own players simply because of the color of their skin. That makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. You can't be that twp-faced as to cheer for your team one second and then completely destroy a player on that team a second later.
I think it's so hard to realize and come to terms with this simply because nothing like this is happening within American sports...and that's all of them (soccer, basketball, football, etc). In fact, most professional athletes in America are Black or have darker colored skin. Not to mention, if something like this did happen in an American sports stadium it would be stopped immediately! Millions of people would have something to say about the events taking place and they would probably never happen again.
I am amazed and happy to say that the United States has in fact came a long way. It is comforting to see that a place consisting of such racism just a few years ago isn't having these difficult racism problems that some other countries are. Hopefully they will be able to overcome them shortly as well.
