To make our Arizona home "greener" we have ONLY native plants using Xeriscape plans. VERY little water use. We have desert landscaping that is natural for our area. My children and I reuse many household items to make crafts: waterbottles, bottle caps, used paper, etc. Our air conditioning is on an electronic thermostat that is set (80 degrees even in our 115 degree heat) to come on only at times of the day that are economical through our Time Of Use plan through SRP, our power company. All of our windows have sunscreens and faux wood blinds to keep out the heat. I only do laundry during our low rate time on Sundays. All of our major appliances are Energy Star. My two kids, ages 11 and 7, are trained to turn off lights and TVs when not in the room. We all brush our teeth without running the water. We try to use reuse terry cloth towels at least twice before washing them, so save energy and water. That's what we do! Can we win???? :)
