Oh yes, we're very probiotics-happy around here. They changed MY life, actually! And so important when taking antibiotics.

Two Makes Four : Process of Elimination

Elias does have a patch of dry, bumpy skin -- so I guess eczema -- on his face, yes. And he's had a cough for what seems like months now, which I've attributed to the ongoing colds/coughs we have floating around the house. Which is well could be. At four months old, I'm not going to subject him to a blood draw. I'd rather go through the elimination to avoid the trauma. Trust me, though, I'd rather just get the answers so that I don't have to die of starvation in the process.

Two Makes Four : Terrible Effing Twos

Ear infection. Dang. Never thought of it because no one's ever had one. I was thinking something more drastic, like gluten intolerance, and I was picturing the rest of our lives without chemical-filled birthday cake. Ear infection. I can do that.

I know, you're right. It's Play Doh on the kitchen table. Nothing more. What is with me? How do I manage to make a messy kitchen table into some extended metaphor for my self-worth? I'm getting caught up in making up stories instead of seeing the reality, the moment.

Two Makes Four : Back to School 2012

No, this is great feedback. I totally agree with your point about not feeling comfortable mixing the role of Mother with that of Teacher, as well as your point about wanting the kids to learn from other adults/styles of teaching. I definitely agree that that's a tremendous benefit. I honestly don't see myself as being mentally stable enough to homeschool, let alone organized, driven, or ambitious enough to do it. I think it would be a disaster for everyone. BUT. I don't think I'm ready to let go of the romance of the idea, if that makes sense. Sort of like my feelings about having a home birth. The *idea* sounds so amazing. I wish I could do it. But I am honest with myself in recognizing that it's just not for me.

This is super interesting to me, for sure. I never thought of the possibility of home/waldorf/montessori/unschooling just for early years to try it out. I tend to be very all-or-nothing in my thinking. I read the first few chapters of "Simplicity Parenting" right after finishing "Teach Your Children Well", and it was, at least the little that I read, along the same lines of thinking so I returned it to the library. I'll probably pick it up again to finish it later. But yes, we're definitely thinking along the same lines. I also just read this article and will probably add this to my reading list: http://www.npr.org/2012/09/04/160258240/children-...

Two Makes Four : On Weight. And Boobs.

I do pump. Or rather, was pumping/sometimes still pump. But my milk, when frozen and then thawed, lets off a really strong lipase taste (tastes like metal -- it's gross). And, of course, Amaia doesn't like the taste. (I had the same issue with the twins, but they got a lot more bottles of expressed milk, so they were used to it.)
