I am a retired NJ teacher who has been a Conservative my entire adult life. I was not a member of the NJEA (union) even though I still had to "contribute" 85% of their dues to them. I never contributed to their political PAC, and let the union know that in my opinion teachers should keep their personal politics out of their professional lives. There are many Conservative teachers in this country, and every time we read a blanket statement or comment about how rotten and greedy teachers are it is like a knife to the heart. Conservatives don't want to be painted with a broad brush because we believe in personal freedom and responsibility. Perhaps we should extend the same to teachers, and not paint them all with the broad brush of greedy union lackey.
