There are many larger cities (Seattle, Madison....) that allow backyard hens. Not chickens, remember, no roosters. The numbers they have for complaints and calls to animal control are very very low. The people who raise chickens, for their eggs and gardens, want them, are educated and care for them. People who have dogs have dogs because lots of people have dogs, most care for them, but many do not. I do know of people in newer $200,000 plus homes that want chickens. Relax. Let them try it. See what sweet, quiet creatures they can be that add quality to our lives not detract from it. Good job to those who worked so hard to show the truth! :) Enjoy your chicks.
The group clearly stated they only wanted hens. Only 4 or 6 max. They do not smell....any more than a cat or dog which are not regulated.
praying for answers and peace for the entire family! just hold on to hope and remember miracles do happen.
this is our second year adopting a family and it's a wonderful program and great example for our children. They see there are others who have needs and will hopefully carry on the tradition one day!
What a great article! Those I have run into interested in raising some hens and receiving fresh eggs aren't the type to ignore their chickens. They are owning them for a purpose. Not because everyone else has them and they think they need one too (like many dog owners) Please don't hate me for that comment, as I own a dog and love them myself. I just don't see people getting chickens for the fun of it then ignoring them when they see the work and time it involves. Getting all neighbors to agree, unlikely. Can't please all the people all of the time, but you can please some of them some of the time! Good luck CLUC!!! I'm sure the new council and mayor will have very open opinions and listen to all sides of the issue. This is my vote of confidence and a test for them.
Good news for a plant that reduced their manufacturing workforce by nearly 25% 7 years ago....Congrats to the employees left standing.
Remember, they said NO ROOSTERS. Chickens are quiet at night. It's a wonderful movement that so many larger and more forward thinking cities have already adopted. The regulations will take care of any issues such as number allowed, housing needs, etc. I agree, some people don't take care of their cats and dogs, but most people will take care of their chickens. Why? The chickens are providing them healthy food! Dogs and cats don't do that! People will not be buying chickens because they are cute and everyone else has one. They have a reason (food), are educated and will be licensed to have them. Go C.L.U.C!!
