Professor Pergola makes a good case that there is geographical representation, albeit grossly distorted, in the current system. This gives certain areas disproportionate representation at the cost of other geographic areas. This disrepresentation has lead to disproportionate subsidization of those living in, say Judah and Samaria, while ignoring the infrastructure needs of those in towns in the Negev and Galilee.
His proposal would be a mixed system in which, say half of the Knesset would be elected through party representation, while the other half is through geography. This would increase accountability to the actions of individual MKs. This accountability is completely missing in the current system of governance. Members of Knesset are not individually held accountable - a recipe for corruption, which has been borne out by the numerous investigations, arrests and trials by the Attorney General and police.

Mr. Republican, you must be from the George W. Bush school of geography.

And yes, Israel despite claims to the contrary, does have nuclear weapons. What of it? It has had nuclear capability since the early 1960s and hasn't threatened anybody with nukes yet.
There is probably more evidence of a desire, on the part of Iran, to attack Israel than the opposite. I don't hear of too many "Death to Iran" rallies in Tel Aviv.
But in reality, neither side would actually the other directly. Israel does not have the capability - unless it does use its nukes and the Iranians are, unlike some of their neighbors, not crazy. This is despite the heated rhetoric. Iran will not attack Israel directly as well.
Instead, we see a proxy war between the two. This war has been going on much more than 20 years and has amassed a significant body count. Iran uses Hezbullah and Hamas, Israel passes arms to anti-Iranian groups through Kurdish territory. Occasionally, as happened in 1994 in Buenos Aires or Bulgaria in 2012, the battle moves out of the Middle East.

However, by doing so, Netanyahu is breaking the first commandment that has been the hallmark of American-Israel relations - showing no partisanship in American political affairs. Organizations such as AIPAC have succeeded exactly because they have not taken any political sides in American politics. American Jewish organizational support has been based on the support for Israel and this has crossed all party lines.
I think that the Democrats in Congress, led by the Jewish members should boycott the meeting. By doing so, they would highlight the motivation behind the speech. It would make it apparent that the speech is a partisan ploy to influence elections in a friendly nation.
IThe boycott would, despite the toxic influence of those such as Sheldon Adelson, help restore the political balance in the US that has served Israel well for the past 50 years.
