Michael Koenig - Scott, I figured that there needed to be a third employee in the comment section here... ;-) In regards to the nofollow link attribute, IntenseDebate comments are generated by JavaScript so comments (including the links they contain) are not indexed. However with our WordPress plugin, comments are output back into the WordPress comment section, so whatever nofollow or dofollow configurations you had in WordPress are applied to comments that are synced back into WordPress. Hope that helps!

db0 - SInce you brought up the Atheist Ethicist, you'll be glad to know that he's the one that better articulated this distinction. Also related to what you say is what he has to say about self-interest. I'll reply more later

People tend to act in their own perceived individual self-interest.

I consider that there are two types of self-interest we can talk about. Interest of the self (IOS), and interest for the self (IFS). The first one is axiomatically defined as anything a person does. An act I do, I do because the result of it will be of psychological benefit to me, in some way. The later type is defined as anything a person does so that he gets a tangible benefit for himself. Wether that is more money, power etc. So while all IFS persons act for their IOS, All IOS is not IFS (ie a doctor working for the poor). Greed is an interest for the self which is unequenchable. It cannot be sustained in Communism because accumulation of power is impossible and accumulation of wealth will be problematic to say the least. You are not talking about greed in your later arguments but about IOS. But other than that, I agree.

db0 - Well, most communists consider the state as only an instrument of class dominance. That is why when class division is gone, so must the state.

db0 - Marco, my pipe does not retrieve the latest songs, you can get those without a pipe. My pipe retrieves your last.fm activity but it does not work correctly because last.fm uses weird date names that yahoo pipes cannot parse. I'm planning to correct that in the future but I haven't had the initiative. I'll see to adding your modification to the maincode as well. Cheers

db0 - Oh Lawd! I'm so glad I don't have to suffer this nonsense anymore. And even when I did, I was never forced to do any of that. I would also notcave in for the sake of Grandparents. They're adults, they should be able to handle it, and if not, tough. I remember when I told my grandmother and aunt about my atheism that they almost freaked out and tried to convince me, but eventually they got the hint and left me alone.

I also realized that in the short year between masses, I had gone from a mushy agnostic-atheist-kinda-still favoring some fluffy God concept and maybe-all-religions-have-a-puzzle-piece-of-wisdom to something pretty close to a miltant athiest.

One of us! One of us! :) I still remember that you were saying something to that extent a while ago which was why I wasn't certain if I should add the ACP to the Atheist Blogroll :) I think that separation from the groupthink is what allows agnostics to become atheists and atheists to become "militant" (ugh). Once you realize how much you've been lied to, it's difficult to keep a wishy-washy attitude against it and indignation takes over. Eventually we grow over it and move on to other stuff, especially the more we don't have to deal with religious bullshit.
